They monitor sales of the gas versions, and as long as they remain strong, there's no need to take that 'risk' in the market with the CRDs. We know we can sell Hemi's and 6er's without a problem, and there's not much room to build cars that may or may not sell right now. Couple that with the fact that we're already loaded up with orders. We're probably just now getting finished with the remainder of orders that carried over from last year! And there are tens of thousands that have been placed worldwide since launch.

Then add in the current pricing of fuel here at home, and customer's personal analysis of whether it'll ever pay for itself. Many who were initially intrigued by the 30mpg claim, see the price of diesel, and hear the price of the CRD up charge, weren't necessarily swindled by the dealers into buying sumn else, they just figure the V6 (or Hemi) may be more feasible for them. Consider how the car market is these days. With so many keeping their car for only 4-5 yrs, the CRD WOULDN'T pay for itself before its traded/turned in, adding in the price difference between 87oc and diesel costs/maintaince.

There's some marketing games going on, but there's also some caution that's being taken. And I assure you all, the vehicles you all are considering as substitutes to your CRD GC, were heavily analyzed in the market before they were launched over here too!

Again, this was already tried a few years ago. And it failed. But seeing there is room in the market for this car now, it's worth trying again, in a better package. But like I said, they don't NEED the CRD right now. And it'd serve them better to launch it in June/July as far as I'm concerned. I agree it's unfair to you all, but you all don't really speak for all those who WILL buy the CRD. Most people aren't even thinking about it right now. And apparently those that are, and settling on the gas models. And in all honesty, that's fine by Jeep!
That makes alot of sense Chevy... I can see why they would wanna keep cranking out current orders at the plant rather than screwing things up adding CRD into the mix.

If I didnt live in Denver at altitude and regularly travel up to higher altitudes I would have jumped on the Hemi already... we just lose so much power at altitude that the turbo on the diesel really has its advantages.

Nothing pisses me off more than driving up the mountain and having the engine downshift on every damn hill because its suckin thin air....

When I asked why the delay, he stated that they did not get the allocation of engines they were initially hoping for and that demand may be greater than originally expected, so they had to balance the two issues.
If this 5/4 date is true the 5/14 production date could still hold and that would be awesome. Everyone else seems to be hearing June or July just to order though..... MILOUS!?!?!? WE NEED YOU!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Wow, just made it through 10 pages after a long day at work! Dealer did call me today and state the CRD couldn't be ordered. Chevy's posts about marketing ring true, but the fear of another short diesel rollout by Jeep I reckon will make me wait until one actually shows up on a dealer lot and they prove they'll support it, either in a GC or a truck. Alas, I have two very high mileage diesels (VW/Cummins) still going strong at plus 200K miles and I've no fear they'll go longer. No need to get hopes up more than they have been in the last few months on the site here, it's been great hearing all the tidbits and learning relatively inside information from guys here, but I reckon I'll just start checking back in weekly instead of daily....

Dave Smith in Idaho just called me and told me that CRD ordering was open and good to go. I'm getting mine into the system right now.
