However, as I've said before, and again and again, and over and over, JeepGarage is NOT an accurate sample of the market in which these cars are sold. If it were, there probably wouldn't even be a Laredo trim anymore, and most of our days would be spent building Overlands, Summits and SRTs. The Limited would be the base model, and we'd have a massive stockpile of Hemi's and diesels. Because that's mainly what's being bought by you guys. And trust me, it's not a problem for us, it's just that you guys may not realize you've got more money that most, and most GC buyers AREN'T buying what you're buying, nor are they a member here.

So, my point is, you guys are looking at this all wrong, and will never understand why the CRD isn't available yet, looking on the surface. It's much deeper than that. For example, look at how few people here are looking to order the CRD. What's there MAYBE 100 of you guys? Ok, now look at the market itself. Aside from you guys, there MAY be 10,000 people who aren't members here, who are interested in buying the CRD? Thats nothing close to real demand folks. But, it provides them with a card to play. See right now dealers are flooded with people buying Hemi's and Pentastar's, many of which have heard that 30mpg figure, and went in to see about it. But when they were told it was coming later, they settled on the GC they probably test drove, bc "eh 25 mpg is good too, and I like this thing!" So from Jeep's perspective, why not hold on to that 'Joker' until the buzz dies down, or people stop settling on the gas models? If the old bait-and-switch is still working, why not keep doing it?.. After all, there's no real way to tell how many will even buy the thing (CRD), considering it already failed here a few years back.

It's like this, talk about all three engines, but only launch two. The fuel mileage of the third will get people into dealers, asking about it, but when it's not available yet and they settle for one of the other two, the third has done its job. Now when sales/orders of the first two meet desired numbers, or start to dip, THEN you launch the third, to sustain dealer traffic and model sales. But if you launched them all together, you'd commit marketing suicide by laying all your cards on the table before the real '14 launch season even starts, when competitors will launch their cars... You have to have something fresh to the market when their stuff drops. Make sense people?

It's got nothing to do with any of the crap people have been saying for the last few weeks. There are no parts shortages related to the CRD. No trans issues. Nothing! It's pure marketing folks.. Put on your marketing hat and think like them.
You should get a huge promotion with smart thinking like that! Good luck to you in your career. I hope the best for you!

Interesting. The dealer I spoke with today said that although he couldn't order a CRD, he could take a "pre-order" from me. But I assumed that was just him collecting my money and banking it until the system opened for actual CRD orders. Let us know what you find out!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Bummed for everyone who was hoping to have placed CRD order by now. Jeep is really being a big tease with the launch at NAIS, web site announcements, and even test drives in auto magazines.
I'm not buying a CRD immediately so delays don't really matter in my case, but while Jeep is delaying order taking, other options keep coming up. This would be a new alternative - for me at least since I don't need to tow but need practicality, AWD, good fuel economy, and enough oomph to drive over high altitude mountain passes.

I'd hazard a guess to say no.

You all and the EU, diesel is a either a major (or the dominant) engine type.

It would make little sense for Jeep to deprioritize diesel for you all.

Here in the States, diesel is still a niche thing, hence Jeep making it into more of a marketing ploy.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I've just read something that would be of interest to those of you caught up in the CRD situation, the LUX package, the blue color choice as well as those who are just trying to figure out why Jeep as a company does what it does. The author is an old timer with deep GM roots as well as a career in automotive advertising. I imagine the automotive references in his blog could be replaced by those from another industry and it would read just as well. Rants - Autoextremist.com ~ the bare-knuckled, unvarnished, high octane truth...

No no no, those are actually still pretty high priority. And as Temerarius said, most exports are diesels due to you guys' embrace of diesel as a primary fuel. Hemi's and Pentastars still make it across the pond, but I imagine by and large, those engines are as scarce over there, as diesels are here.

But nothing with the US CRD launch pertains to you guys. Your cars will continue to be mixed into our daily build just as you have in the past. We've been building quite a few of them each shift since they launched. I don't have an exact number, but definitely normal production numbers, if not higher.

I imagine you guys will start seeing them hit your lots sooner than we even begin building them for the US market.

Ok, that wasnt funny.. Sorry guys.

I hope i get the magical call today telling me to come in and pick it up. If not i will be worn out from waiting until monday for that call.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

This is just an observation. Everyone is getting upset with Milous for not posting anything in the past few days. Everyone needs to take a step back and think: "What if this site wasn't here?"

They (Milous, Scott, Chevy and Marlon) spend A LOT of personal time on here because they too are Jeep enthusiast. This site has been a blessing for some people, and others it has became site of demand. Do I agree with what is going on with the CRD? No I don't, but also if this site wasn't here and Jeep announced the diesel was coming soon all we'd have to go on is word from Jeep itself.

Give these guys on here an understanding hand instead of a demanding one. Remember the old adage "Don't bite the hand that feeds you".

Thanks for the reassurance guys, Milous is also keeping us updated in the export thread.
Yes we are big diesel fans for our large SUVs here in AU. Petrol/gas is still the main fuel for passenger cars but for most SUVs diesel is the go mainly for the long range ability, especially for outback touring ( no gas stations out there) also for towing caravans, boats etc where you need to bottom end and mid range torque ( but lets not start another diesel debate ! )
