Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

My Summit made it this morning at 7:00 am. I got a call from the dealer to get that bad boy. He left it unwashed with the plastic on, as i had asked him. It made it here in great condition. I have been spending the day unwrapping it and trying to learn some of the functions. One thing that was interesting was that both headlights had moisture inside where the lenses are. Any idea why this might be? The dealer thought it might be some kind of residual condensation from the build. he said to wait until monday, and if it was still there he would order new ones. Other than that, it also had a small scratch on the right front fender, and on the front bumper. I am still happy though and can live with the poor handling from shipping it 1/2 way across the country. I will post pics tomorrow. BLACK on BLACK BABY!!!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I'm wondering if using anything higher than B5 biodiesel will void the warranty. First the link states -

"A maximum blend of 5% biodiesel meeting ASTM specification D975 is recommended. If frequent operation with biodiesel blends greater than 5% but not greater than 20% (B6 to B20) is desired, a shorter interval maintenance schedule is used:
• Oil change at 10,000 miles (B5 biodiesel fuel) • Oil change at 8,000 miles (B20 biodiesel fuel)"

Later it's stated -

"Ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) required
B5 (5% maximum biodiesel approved)"

So recommended is B5 but it sounds like up to B20 is allowable as long as you change the oil more frequently according to the first quote. The second quote makes it sound maximum approved is B5.

Don't worry about condensation in the headlights. They get hot and therefore need to be vented. All that means is humid air is in there and it will evaporate out as soon as you heat them up. Every car I've owned with halogen or HID lights has moisture condensed on the inside from time to time.

John!

JOHN!!!!!

I'm so happy to finally see your Jeep (again)! And most importantly, in your possession. It's been so long, I forgot where I tagged it. Ha.

It's been a long journey, I'm sure.

Congrats and thanks for your purchase.

I would bet that to get that mileage eco mode has to be on, but regardless no option removes eco mode completely from the vehicle.

It's not so much that using higher B value diesels will void your warranty, more along the lines of, the higher the B value in your diesel, the more diesel that will seep into your crank case oil.

Now, that, on it's own (the mixing of the Bio-Diesel into your engine oil) is not a horrific thing. Rather, it's that you are adding oil to the system. Too much oil will result in hydrostatic lock (which, if you don't know what that is.. it's bad... super bad, especially at speed).

Why does this happen? It's how they setup the regen cycle for the DPF. The system will inject a little diesel post combustion that will head down the manifold and ignite in the exhaust system (due to the high temps in the system). Problem is, Bio has a higher flashpoint then standard diesel. Thusly, it doesn't ignite, it sticks to the cylinder wall and as the engine works, will make it's way up the wall and into the crank case oil.

*queue scary music*

So, that being said, you can run higher B values, but CHECK YOUR OIL LEVELS OFTEN... and change it as needed.

Thanks to all for your encouragement, and especially Chevy and Marlon for the special touches.

PS - The stripe courtesy of the dealer looks great!
So glad you like it JJ. Thanks for taking time to update us on the new truck. Go forth and enjoy.

the document wasn't anything special, I was more excited about the fact that the May 14 production date hasn't changed.

Would you consider Mac steel a blueish silver ? It looks different under different lighting conditions.
