Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Looks like there are some rails on the roof. Are there any cross bars or other accessories to be able to put stuff like skies, bikes or other things on the roof?

Also, any recommendations on floor mats. Weather Tech, Husky, Lloyd, Quadratec? Any experience with those?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

[QUOTE=FredoinSF;797407]This is about the cherokee, not the Grand Cherokee.

I realize that these are two different vehicles but it is the same company making them. If Fiat cannot release the "Cherokee" on time because they are having "financial difficulties" then logic would dictate that other things, such as the CRD release, might be delayed for the same reason.

The CRD has been due for order every month since December and is now delayed into May. Honesty is the best policy. Is there something up and we are wasting our time waiting or are they really going to produce these. Just let us know, honestly.

The MOPAR ones are made by Thule; there is a whole thread on MOPAR/THULE vs the Yakima Whispbar. The MOPAR rails are cheaper than the same THULE rails if you got them from RackWarehouse, REI, etc.. and super EZ to get from the dealer; $319 installed, $278 parts only.

For the floor mats, some is personal preference but with weather tech, go with floor liners and not floor mats. The floor liners are contoured and fit really well. Weather tech floor mats fit but not really well. My other recommendation would be the jeep floor mats. The jeep cargo liner I like better than the weather tech one. For the front, I might go with the weather tech over jeep since weather tech will hold a spill but they are both pretty good.

That's not really correct as far as order dates go. Chrysler has never given a specific date for CRD ordering. About a year ago when I revealed that the '14s were going to be released early, I posted the at-the-time scheduled production start dates for the 2014 refresh. Not long after I posted that the CRD would lag behind the other models by a couple months, and posted the original 3/25 CRD start date.

The CRD has since been delayed by just 7 weeks, not too bad considering the complexity of the '14 refresh. It's important to note that the refresh became a lot more involved that what the original plan was - they ended up incorporating a LOT more features, making the Grand Cherokee one of the most extensive mid-cycle refreshes that Chrysler had ever done.

It's been just 2-1/2 months since the '14 launched, and aside from a few blips here and there the launch has gone extremely well IMO. Many thousands of owners are now driving them.

Of course they are going to produce the CRD's, but they are not going to rush them out prematurely. Hang in there, by the time one is in your driveway the wait will have seemed like days rather than months.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I hate seeing a car with an otherwise beautiful interior with rubber mats.

Years back not all cars came with carpets, many had vinyl flooring. In time everyone wanted carpet and newer ones were easier to clean. So almost every car had carpet. But it still got dirty so Rubbermaid and others started selling rubber mats to protect the carpet. They worked, but defeated the whole idea of having carpet. So finally, carpeted floor mats became a standard. They are there to protect the carpet, yet keep the look and feel of the original carpet. And they are washable with a pressure washer or at a self serve car wash.

Unless you walk around in oil every day, using the carpeted mats will allow you to keep the carpets like new for many years. Only the carpeted mats might need to be replaced once in a while. Any dirt that gets onto the main carpet will clean up with a spray cleaner and a vacuum. If they get wet from some excess snow it's unlikely to do any harm. They will dry pretty quickly with the hot air from the heater blowing around down there. Enjoy what you got, don't save it for the next guy.

Why the rant? Rubber car mats remind me of my ex mother-in-law's plastic covered living room furniture.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I've used the weathertech liners for years and love them. They are very low maintenance and protect the carpet better than anything else I've found. In the winter with all the snow and salt and slop I drag into the car the carpet gets stained even around rubber slush mats. The liners protect everything. When they get dirty just rinse them with a hose.

I'll be putting the Thule crossbars on this afternoon, will post when I'm done.

I would prefer vinyl floor anyways. Salt sucks to clean it the winter, especially in dark carpet.

It's a Jeep. You're SUPPOSED to be able to rinse it with a hose.

My stupid sister took that too literally with her Wrangler. You can only guess what she had to have replaced.

This really, really sucks. Plus my salesman and dealer are A-holes who just shrug when I ask them for some help.
I feel your pain. I can't find any pattern. A colleague at work and I ordered nearly identical Overlands the same day at the same dealer. Only difference is color (mine is deep cherry red, his is cashmere, both have advanced technology group). His was released and is on its way. Mine has been stuck in "I" for nearly two weeks now. Salesman has no clue. MOTS' estimated delivery date came and went days ago.
