Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Dealers need to make enough profit to stay in business. If your final price is near $1000 below invoice (and without any added dealer handling/prep charges) you have a very good price. Can you beat that? Yes, if you want to go to the trouble of group buy in another state, etc.

Coloradodriver, I live in El Paso, Tax which would be about a good 9 hr drive to Colorado Springs. I do agree that dealers need to make enough money to stay bin business but I also believe that (us) the people in this forum and other informed buyers are the minority and dealers for the most part are making out a pretty decent living from all the other uninformed buyers that they abuse. I rather not have to travel 9 hrs to get this done but I've done it in the past. My last new car was a 2008 G35 which is my car still and I travel from El Paso to Dallas to do that deal in Dec of 2007.

Just want to get the best deal locally to avoid traveling while using the leverage of the deals that can be have in the big markets.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

[
Maybe I made a bad move but sensing this is going nowhere fast I reply to him attaching a copy of the offer sheet from the Colorado springs group buy and telling him that he needs to beat this or at he very least meet it if he wants to sell me the SUV. He then replied that he was not aware that I had an "Affiliates or Friends and Family Control number" and to email him the number so he can see what I qualify for.

Not sure how to proceed as I do not have the number yet and was trying to get him down on to the acceptable 4% below invoice to match Colorado springs group buy without having to do thread lightly. If I have to join thread lightly I don't mind but is there something he can do with that control number to make it so I have to buy from their dealership? I don't see why he needs it? I though it was 1% below invoice regardless of how I, the buyer, got the program affiliation.

k 2[/QUOTE]

I joined Access Fund (Home - Access Fund) which only cost $30 and they seem to be pretty informal about handing out their 'company code' affiliate number. I think I waited the requisite 30 days, but the lady I spoke to never asked. You take that number to the Jeep Affiliates Rewards website and sign up and you get a control number. I emailed that to my local Jeep dealer and he agreed right away to the 1% below invoice price that I had calculated on a spread sheet I gave him a few days earlier...came out right to the penny! The Overland was ordered and today, it's on a train on its way here. It should arrive a week from Sunday and by Monday I'll know for certain if the dealer is 100% true to his word!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I have bought many cars through the years. I find the best way to get a great price is to deal directly with the sales manager. I never contact a salesman first. Now days it is easy to call and ask to speak to the Internet sales manager. So I start there (he is not usually on commission); but after I counter-offer what he says is their price, I always end up working directly with the sales manager because he is the only one with the authority to go lower.

If you are not doing a trade-in it is easy. With trades it becomes difficult, since it is far easier for the dealer to drop the value of your trade than it is to inflate the price of the new vehicle. So I start by getting a firm trade-in offer. From there I deal on vehicle price.

Also remember that in most states if you trade rather than sell privately you can save significantly in sales taxes. (For example because I am trading a late model Mercedes on the Jeep, my total sales tax bill will be only about $700.)

I keep the dealing friendly. My last four new cars have all come in about $1500 below invoice. That is the price I got on the Jeep, and I did not use the group buy dealership. I did however use the Affiliate Program which gives the dealer 2% additional cash back to help his wiggle room. In the end, the dealership will usually also throw in winter mats and/or clear bra.

Jeep4run, do you think I could get the access to that affiliated program through accessfund quicker than with thread lightly? I like the savings using accessfund as is only $30 compare to $100 from thread lightly. It is still $100 for thread lightly to qualify, right?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

With the Affiliate Rewards Program what should I expect for the dealer "prep" or "doc" fee. Does this vary? What are people seeing: $100, $250, $500, $1000? I remember Pat@FieldsAuto had a low "doc" fee. And he doesn't collect the $75 chrysler fee.

(4% below invoice with a mandatory $2000 pin striping charge ain't good.)

The Affiliate Program avoids dealer handling and prep. But you need to "remind" the sales manager that fact. It does include the $75 Chrysler fee. That is already included in the FFP price shown on the invoice.

Coloradodriver, sounds a better plan of approach to talk to the sales manager since they are the puppet master pulling the strings anyways. I email the salesman again and told him that I spoken to Chrysler and they told me 1% below invoice on any Jeep. I also reminded him that the Colorado offer is more than that and asked him if he is willing to match it ?

Let's see what happen. On another note what would you recommend as the best approach to get into the affiliated program? I cannot believe that working for this is true, I called Chrysler and told the lady on the phone that I work for the U.S. Government (not military) under the Department of Homeland Security and she told me to hold for a brief moment and told me sorry but I do not have you on my list. Is this true anybody? Hard to believe, for me at least.

Even though you have the affiliate program, the dealer doesn't have to participate in the program. But not sure why they wouldn't. I didn't call any dealer when I was getting prices and only dealt with the sales manager. No group buy price for me and I still got 6%.

Is this "fact" in writing anywhere? My dealer normally charges $599. doc / prep / handing fee. I think I asked The Affiliate Rewards Program HQ the question several months ago and I thought they said they had no control over this.

Also, my salesmen has already said, in writing, they participate.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

OK, there are no JGC on the dealers lot anywhere in our area that matches what we would be looking for. (what is with the proliferation of black vehicles all of a sudden?)

So does anyone here or that works for Jeep have a ballpark on how long the order process to delivery time frame is currently? This is information would surely help ion our quest to purchase a new vehicle
