Actually, 8.5% is comparatively "good" by California taxation standards.

In metro Phoenix, AZ, sales tax depending on municipality, is at least 9%, most in the 9.5% range, a few at over 10% and one at 11.3% (!).
Also an annual personal property tax on vehicles paid annually with registration based on MSRP. For example, I paid $712 tax on a new 2014 Overland for year one.

Don't mess with Texas....but from what I hear/read, (like Florida), the property taxes are a bit higher based on national averages.

State income taxes and property taxes are "reasonable" based on the national ratings scale. Family of say 4, based on an income of 75-80k would pay about $1,300 to $1,600 per yr. depending on deductions.
A "hidden tax" here, if you live, as many do in a subdivision/planned community are the monthly Homeowner Assoc. Fees (HOA).

Like you could not *bleeping* believe. Here's a figure to find yourself feeling sorry for me and a lot better about yourself. A 166k mortgage pays between $3.8k to $4.3k property tax. How do you like them apples. That's for El Paso, TX, not houston, dallas, San Antonio or the state capital Austin. I can only imagine what the property taxes are in those cities.
As Barney would say - In* wait for it* sane.

State sale tax is 8.25% and no state income tax.

Ohh so happy I live here.
So like the slogan says: "Don't Mess With Texas"

Ohh, almost forgot. You do get more house for your money though. $200k easily can get you over 2,000 square feet and very nice layout house, one story or two story, three bedrooms or four with 2.5 bathrooms or maybe even 3 full baths.

So in short, is not too bad and it balances out.

In '05 I retired and moved to Delaware. The house I sold on L.I. now has property taxes around $10,000. I bought a bigger house on twice the property and pay $1,100. Income tax is 5.5% instead of 7.5%. and Delaware has NO SALES TAX. They do charge a 'fee' on new car purchases of 3.75%.

My trade in on the Jeep was $35,000, so my "fee" was next to nothing.

Not jealous now are ya? We do have fantastic weather out here that most Californians gladly pay a little higher tax for. Though in my area, the sales tax rate is 7.5%.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I think this is getting a bit off topic. My state is better than your state etc, etc. You are all deducting most of those taxes.

Now, lets talk about when is delivery due or when is the diesel coming out. lol

Yeah... but you have to live in Texas.

*duck*

*run*

I pay 9.8% here in Seattle, no income taxes though.
