Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

You know, I've crunched the numbers and while I was excited about the CRD I am really sad to say I am likely not going to go for the Jeep GC.

I was born and raised in France and been around diesel cars since I was a kid. I have lived in the US for a long time but spend several weeks a year in France as well as other countries for both business and family visits. I love the small diesel cars over there. Peppy off the line and very economical given the price of fuel there. With my background, i was excited to get a CRD. Besides that the Jeep GC is really the only American vehicle that I can honestly say I like and I really wanted to get an American car.

I have three 2 door cars going from quick and sporty to luxury cruiser. The Jeep would be the fourth vehicle and the workhorse of the fleet. My needs are for a vehicle with enough trunk space for 2 adults luggage and incidentals for long weekends along with a couple of dog beds, dog food. Cabin space needs to be large enough and comfy enough for 2 adults on frequent 3 hour trip in the mountains and 2 medium size dogs in back. It has to have four or all wheel drive to avoid having to put chains on in CA. I need a car with decent fuel economy given how much I drive and it needs to have enough oomph to handle the high elevation driving. I prefer to do my own shifting as I have only had one car with an automatic in my entire life (the former WJ Jeep) but I understand the newer automatics are better and the flippy paddles give more control.

My perfect 2013 build would be a Limited with tow package and nothing else. That comes in barely over 40k for the 2013. For 2014, I expected a bump of about 2k for the diesel and maybe an extra grand for trans upgrade so still in low to mid 40's. Adding the CRD, tow, and lux to a 2014 Limited makes it 47 to 48k. At that price point, the Overland almost makes sense and comes in at 50k with the CRD. The V8 is too thirsty and I think the V6 will struggle on uphill grinds at 7,700 feet. I am having sticker shock and I think I'm out. Jeep is pushing price elasticity to its limits by pricing the diesel at $4,500 and I'm not going for it.

Are you saying this because you think there will be so many problems on the line it will take a month before they can start shipping? Why would Jeep publicize a Production start date of March 25th if they can't ship until May?

Because other jeep orders ahead of you get priority...Your vehicle will wait in line like the rest of them. They continue to produce Jeeps on that same line. Think 8 weeks for your vehicle. If overseas, think 2-3 months possibly.

8 weeks from when? Milous guessed they would open the order banks on February 5th. 8 weeks from then would be April 2nd, that works for me.

So your saying they won't be producing diesels starting on March 25th because not until every order that has been placed before they open the diesel banks has been completed will they start to produce the diesels for the U.S. market? Then why would Jeep Customer service call me to tell me they will start production on the 25th of March.

To further add to what SnoFire had said - if in Canada and you're buying an SRT - think 4-6-8 months.

(I'm in Canada, I ordered an SRT, I'm already impatient. )

Start dates are not an exact science. Nobody knows today how many orders will come in, although based on allocations they may have a pretty good idea.

Place your order as soon as you can and then just wait like everyone else. Pretty soon you'll be driving your Jeep and the wait will be a distant memory.

If I can't get it before May 15, 2013 then I don't need it until March 1, 2014. Which means ordering it a year later...

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I was saying from when the production date. Even with the ordering date being earlier and you can order then, you might have to wait around 8 weeks from production start up on the CRD. If you are overseas, you might have to wait 2-3 months. Or as JDR has stated, Canada could be 4-8 months from production start up date. I could be completely wron with this as I am just going off what Scott has mentioned to us a few hundred posts ago about us waiting for the regular jeeps to start production.

Order when you can and hope for the best!

You could be cutting it close. Even if production starts March 23 (my father's birthday), it doesn't mean your Jeep would be built that day.
