Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Yesterday, I ordered a 2014 Overland 4x4 V6, after haggling with several dealerships on pricing. Thanks to the advice on this forum, I signed up through accessfund to get the FFP, and started working with dealers through email. The first dealer wouldn't budge from 1% below invoice, and before I mentioned that I had an affiliate code he tried to offer an above-invoice price as his "best deal". Hah. He said no one in the area would go below 1%, or come close to matching the Colorado group buy, and that it sounded like "a shady deal", and "probably doesn't work for special orders".

With a different dealer, I let them know right away that I had an affiliate code, and that the first dealer wouldn't budge from 1%. This other dealer gave me a quote right away for 3.2% below invoice! I tried to see if they would match the Colorado group buy price, and they said they wouldn't be able to do that. I decided that was fine, 3.2% is in the range I was looking to purchase at, and yesterday I put in my order. Woot!

I made sure to let the first dealer know, but I was polite about it. At first he had been saying that they "can't" make that kind of deal. I just wanted him to change that to a "won't", which he did. The irony is that I keep seeing web ads for that dealer, with the promise of $200 in accessories if you buy a car - oh boy!

Thanks again everyone for sharing your purchase experience and techniques. Being an informed consumer is an awesome feeling.

Congrats! That is why it is good to talk to multiple people for any big purchase

What did he tell you invoice was for your vehicle and what was the end number that you were happy with that was below his invoice?

I'm curious, do you have a trade-in and if so, have they already given you a price for that? I am always very skeptical of a really good deal. I have it easy, I go to CarMax to get an appraisal first. They pay a true book value. The dealer never comes close. Since there is no CarMax in Oregon, I can only recommend figuring out what a trade in is worth online. The CarMax website will give you a good sale price to work down from.

I received a quote from CarMax for $11k on my '08 Avenger R/T in 2010 ($25k + new). The dealer was willing to give me $14,500 along with a deep discount on a new '10 Laredo. I didn't care for the color and it lacked dual zone A/C so I passed. CarMax doesn't always provide the best trade in value.

I have a google docs spreadsheet with invoice, percentages and dollar amounts below invoice, etc, for my particular Overland build. Invoice is $46,503 (Overland 4x4 V6 of $43,736, plus destination of $995, plus Adv. Tech of $1509, plus ORAII of $263). The dealer listed that number, and quoted me $45,065 (plus DMV and plus the $75 affiliate fee). So, $1438 below invoice. With DMV and the fee my out-the-door price will be $45,519.

I Figured He Really Didn't Know What Was Available Or When But This Was The Third Attempt To Purchase Through Them. Chevyboy And others Feel Similar As I Do. I Guess I'm Just Venting While Impatiently waiting For The Diesels To Be Ordered.

No trade-in. My '02 Ford Explorer threw a rod at 70k miles, and I'm going to sell it privately as a fixer-upper, since the cost of putting in a new engine is a little more than the remaining value of the vehicle.

Some one told me the "$75.00 affiliate fee" is included in the amount on the invoice designated as "PP".

On the example invoice they don't show the actual invoice price only the preferred price"PP".

Regardless, I plan to have as many numbers on my iPhone as possible the day I negotiate the car.

I always get the quote first from Carmax. Then I make the best deal with the dealer assuming NO trade in. I just say my existing car is a lease or something. Then I ask them if I did trade how much will you give me. Otherwise it is impossible to tell what is the TRUE discount.

The book-value or Trade-in value the NADA(National Automobile Dealers Association) ends up with is a mathematical relationship between the invoice price of the new car and the actual sales price(money received). The price listed on your contract for Trade-in isn't the price that ends up in the guide. If they didn't do this, the NADA guide would be meaningless.

As for the tailgate, It is aligned perfectly. The only thing I noticed is the right rear tail light is very close on the door and on the panel (picture included). But there really is no way this should be a problem.
Congratulations Sno! I'm glad your Jeep finally made it out of Toledo!
