You didn't read the small print at the bottom of the page, in particular #2.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Here is a line from a version of the rules that Pat posted:
"The preferred price is a maximum of 1% below factory invoice plus a $75 administration fee per calendar year, as long as the designated company remains on Chrysler‟s company eligibility list."

So, a guy could read the "maximum" as pertaining to the word "below" if he wanted to make sure that he didn't discount too much...rather than it pertaining to the word price!

In fact, from the Affiliate Rewards website;

"The Preferred Price is the maximum amount you will be charged by a participating U.S. dealer for an eligible vehicle.See dealer for details. A $75 administration fee applies. Offer valid for up to 2 (two) Chrysler Group LLC vehicles per calendar year. The Dodge Viper, Dodge Dart(SE) and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT are not currently eligible for this program."
After talking with the Program HQ, much of this statement, from the web-site, seems misleading. (BTW The quoted statement is from the bottom of the page of the Program Details Tab on the affiliates web-site.)
  1. The $75 is included in the "PP"(Preferred Price).
  2. Since a dealer can add on Transfer fees, Dealer Installed options, and Doc fees the "PP" is clearly not the maximum.

It is possible, for the dealer and customer to qualify for the "Affiliate Rewards Program", the discount must be 1%. That doesn't mean when not using the program they can't go lower. The dealer gets reimbursed some of the money from the manufacturer under the program. Regardless, this doesn't mean the dealer is or is not trying to mislead you.

There are many reasons dealers might offer extreme discounts.

One thing is to look at the "holdback" to discover the true cost for the vehicle; there are websites that claim to have those figures.

Google search: True Dealer Cost "Holdback"

Edit: There is one more thing I should add about figuring out the true dealer cost. I worked at a large professional photo lab; at the time, we spent 100s of thousands of dollars yearly on photographic paper. I was the only one in the company that had complete control over the books. Even I, with that knowledge, couldn't figure out what we truly paid for photographic paper. There were all kinds of discounts, free equipment, the owner was treated to free meals and lap dances at conventions, we received new equipment ahead of other labs because we were devoted to the brand and other incentives I can't even remember. So, don't expect to ever find a true dealer cost.

It's not misleading at all. The car as delivered from the factory cannot be sold for more than the preferred price. It can be sold for less. Fees and dealer installed options are not on the invoice. You would pay those even if you were paying sticker price.

The dealer's price for the car is 2% below invoice. Holdbacks and quota bonuses are another issue. It's all very simple, but if you try you can always muddy the water.

The actual cost to the dealer is way less than 2% of invoice. Holdback alone is 3% of MSRP. There are $ allotments for financing the veh while it sits on the lot and advertising $ allotments from the factory plus quota bonuses and various other incentives to the dealers depending on many factors. The true cost of the veh to the dealer can be closer to 10% under invoice in many cases. That's why some dealers can go 7% under invoice and some can't and stay in business. None sell at a loss!

Confirmed... At least the dealership we bought our vehicle from in Wisconsin told us in WI, we must pay the tax on any affiliate program discount. On our purchase contract there was actually a dollar amount equal to 2% of the retail price. To me this confirms if you are using an affiliate discount to get the 1% below invoice you should be able to get the additional 2% Jeep pays the dealership in your pocket... Thus, 3% below invoice should be easily doable in this program as they still make 2% of their 3% holdback and all the additional incentives listen in the previous post. Heck, if you order out the vehicle there is no real floor plan cost to them and they will easily pocket this allowance also

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

The CO group buy @ $1750 under inv using the afiliate program on my Limited = 4.2% under inv (incuding the destination cost) and there were no fees of any kind added on which made the deal = to 5.2% under inv compared to dealers in AZ who would only go $500 under inv plus doc fees of $400 and anything else they could get away with! Plus there was a sales tax advantage of 2.75% for out of state sale. No local sales tax only state.

When I read: "the maximum amount you will be charged by a participating U.S. dealer", I assume that means the check I write to the dealer can be made out for that amount, assuming I pay the tax, title and registration separately. With all the unrestricted miscellaneous amounts the dealer can charge under the rules of the program, this is not the case.
I think Chrysler's intent is the preferred price to be the maximum, but there are loopholes in the program rules. I am not saying they have an intent to mislead.

The buyer is concerned with the actual amount paid not an amount before other miscellaneous amounts are added on.

Hmmm, if this is the case then how are people getting up to 6% discount off invoice?
That's the same line I got from a dealer recently. It stopped the deal cold, and I had to give up.
