The way it was explained to me is the dealer has a computer with ordering software; it downloads data that contains all the packages and option codes kind of like performing a software update. At some point, since January, all the codes for the diesel were downloaded. An order can then be entered, sort of like writing an email. The next step is to send the order to the factory. Since you can't order a diesel yet, it can't be sent. The person at my dealer who does the ordering is named Sandy; according to my salesman she tries to send the her diesel orders every day.

Also, my salesman said, once the order is sent it doesn't mean it still can't get rejected. Once it is accepted, they get the VON and the VIN eventually.

This is the way it is done at my dealer. Also, this is the way my salesman explained it; so it may a dumbed down version. In the future all these systems are likely to be entirely web based. This doesn't mean the job of entering and sending orders will be much different...

I would like to be able, at some point, to order a car online. That would be cool.

Edit: P.S. I replaced the acronym "CRD" with diesel; CRD doesn't seem to be used here in the states by Jeep. The engine still is a "Common Rail Diesel though". People at the dealer might not know what a CRD is.

Must be level 3 membership or higher to get tracking info. If you go to level 4 or higher Milous will send you a PDF copy of the "Official Factory Build Sheet" for your veh a few days after your veh is moved to the Delivered Vehs post #2 in the tracking thread.

You look dumb when all the press is out and you don't have product to sell.

I was really thinking this was the date this time around ... Makes me nervous there's something wrong. Now we may have time to consider the 2014 BMW X5.
I'm not believing anything until it comes from Milous. Very rarely do dealers get news before he does. Same false rumors came about a few weeks ago. Im still hoping for Tuesday.

Me too. I have already ordered my rims(ATX Artillery Black Teflon). I think I'm going to mount the new Cooper A/T 3's to them and put them in my garage where the jeep is going to go. Then I can put 5 dining room chairs between them and I can pretend it's real.

Once you become a premium member level 3 or above what's the process for milous to track your build? Do you pm him directly or is there some other way?

That said, post 2006 there is no question, in my mind, U.S regulations have hurt fuel economy and over all environmental impact of diesels. European diesels at the same horsepower have less CO2 emissions per mile driven then ours.
We calculate emissions by the gallon of fueled burned. In Europe, improved economy means improved emissions but not here is the U.S.
I understand the EPA rating dropped when they switched to a 5 cycle test, but that was a single change that happened in 2008. A more 'real-world' accurate test they should get off their #%+€ and adopt in Canada I may add... The fuel economy should be an average expectation, not a 'under best case scenario', as was the old EPA test and is the current Canadian test.

Emissions and economy are 2 separate beasts and the fuel efficiency started dropping in the TDI in 2004 due to increased regulation on the emissions. Of course there are other factors that have played their role on vehicles economy over the last decade, like safety requirements increasing the weight of vehicles, but from 2000-2006 the Golf curb weight did not not really change. The rated economy on the TDI was a rock solid 38 from 2000-2003, and dropped the following 3 years. This is due to increase emission regulation.

2000 Golf TDI curb weight: 2,943lbs (1335kg)

2003 Golf TDI curb weight: 2,976 lbs

I apologize for the thread hijack.

I hope to hear of many CRD orders being placed in a few more days!

While I'm doing fuel economy comparisons and screenshots... Here's the rating on the only 3 engine options currently available in the North American 2014 JGC (all 4wd)

I suggest not comparing with the sub 3000lb Golf TDI

The original start date that I posted earlier last year (late March) will only have been delayed about 7-weeks if production ends up starting on 5/13. Production of the overseas CRD models has been going on for awhile now, and a ton of U.S. CRDs have been built for quite awhile now, all undergoing testing and certification.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I, too, was skeptical of Husker's source except that he had it right last month. Similar timing to getting this info as last month, too. 2 business days before ordering was scheduled to open up, he tells Husker it's going to be delayed.
