Angry Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I have probably been waiting longer than anyone for the CRD. I started looking at Jeeps in 2011, and put everything on hold when I learned of the diesel option. However, after the delay announcement today, I have made the decision to order the V8. Here are my thoughts:

1. To the guy going to plan B and ordering the Ford explorer sport -- I don't blame you. These month to month delays are a slap in the face to us loyal Jeep customers/nuts. We are where word of mouth marketing starts for you -- why are you pissing on us? I seriously would say F-you Jeep and go buy another brand if there is actually one I liked. I just love Jeeps too much

2. It is 100% confirmed that the CRD is nothing more than a marketing ploy. There have been a zillion tv/print ads running for at least 2 months. All advertising 30 mpg. But no CRD and no CRD on the horizon. Just never ending delays. Hell why don't they just advertise it as 100 mpg -- because of course I'm sure Jeep will have an engine like that in 50 years. It will eventually be available right? I don't know if some of you guys came across the "lawsuit" thread, but this CRD mess-up could certainly be discussed as false advertising. How can you advertise something that is not available and clearly isn't going to be available for some time? Isn't that false advertising?

3. If Jeep really had confidence in this engine, they would be selling it!! Why would you not want to get such an awesome engine out into the marketplace and show it off? It just really smells like they are worrying about problems with the engine -- and I would guess that is due to emissions issues.

4. Guys will say they are launching the CRD later so there can be more buildup and excitement then too -- but then why have it scheduled so early and keep pushing it back month by month? Why not just schedule it for Q3 originally?

So here is my plan: Order the V8 and enjoy it. Let other guys wait it out for the CRD, and see how the reviews roll in. Go test drive a CRD when they arrive on lots. If they are really that great, i'll trade in the V8 and get my CRD. Sure i'll lose some moolah, but that's ok with me. Heck maybe I wouldn't even of liked the CRD after I did wait, and end up trading it in for a V8 anyways.

Sorry for the rant, I just am sick of having my dreams crushed, and can't continue to wait a month at a time. At this rate, September or October delivery wouldn't surprise me. You have broken my patience point Jeep, and my respect meter for you guys has gone down a few bars.

MILOUS we hope you can chime in with some thoughts soon. But really the only thing you can do to change my mind would be to say they are offering a $3000-4000 credit for the CRD when it is offered. Beyond that, I will be placing my hemi overland order on Tuesday! And that is a fine consolation prize for me

I was actually curious if you have had the V8 up over any passes or in decent altitude. How does it perform? Any downshifts looking for more power when going up mountain hills? I have been waiting forever for the CRD, since I thought it would perform best in Colorado (altitude), but now I am almost certain I am going to go ahead and get the V8. I can't continue to wait. Just curious about your opinion of the engine using it in altitude.
I live at 8500ft. Have not gone higher (has only been four days!), but have gone back and forth to The Springs. Power is not an issue with the Hemi. Coming up the pass today in Eco Mode, I noticed that the engine never was above 2000rpms. For reference, the 2011 Mercedes E350 4Matic we traded on the Jeep almost forced us to go into Sport Mode just to keep up with traffic.

We also drive a 2012 Passat TDI, and clearly turbo diesels are wonderful in the mountains. But even at altitude the Hemi has lots of power in reserve for whenever you need/want to use it. All things considered, wife and I are now glad we went with the Hemi. And if we had continued to wait for the CRD our Mercedes trade would have lost value as the new models would be rolling out by August. As far as MPGs. we will us the Passat for the long trips, since it gets about 46 on the highway.

I wasn't happy as well seeing the CRD being pushed back again. I have a hunch that reason is due to supply constraints, and right now they need to get as many CRD's into the export markets, as those dealers have all but run out of '13 models and, unlike north america, have no 2014s at all. It's unfortunate that Jeep is keeping everyone hanging, they need to better inform their (potential) customers of such delays.

As for a discount/credit when they eventually come out, no chance that will happen.

You will be happy with the Hemi and save 4K on the purchase price. I had considered the CRD but I thought it would take a while to get out and probably will have issues that need to be worked out when it does. Chrysler does seem to have a little history of this now. People have been waiting over a year now for the Dodge Dart to have a 2.4 engine and a 9 speed auto and to date neither can be bought, although the 2.4 is supposed to be very soon. To the person going to an Explorer I don't even know how you can compare the two vehicles they are completely different.

9-spd auto for the Dart is a long ways out. 2.4L (Dart GT) has been delayed now until October, as a late 2014 model instead of a 2013.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Maybe Jeep needs to put the CRD ads to rest until it is actually available. I'm not even ordering a 14' or a 14CRD and the marketing just making other consumers mad as hell. I think this 14' refresh launch was rushed and in honesty should have been held off at least til may to get kinks and be able to have all options available at launch.... These delays are putting customers off and are seeking other brands.. :-( Jamesla30 and all the other diesel guys dont blame you if you decide to go with the V8 or another brand cause this situation just sucks...

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I am trying to look at the positives of the CRD delay but it is definitely getting frustrating. Hopefully it will mean more initial production bugs will be taken care of and maybe updated software for UConnect. I still think it looks especially bad for Jeep when you are seeing more and more things in print and other media forms giving your product great press and you don't have that product to sell. There's an outside chance we will continue to consider the Touareg if they change up some option packages for MY2014 as well as the forthcoming 2014 BMW X5d.

Ugggg there goes my optimism out the window Supplier constraints for an SUV they knew they were building for more than a year probably - great planning.

I assume late June is now production start for North America - any idea if we are at least still ordering CRD on May 7th?

Nope, my guy got his May Allocation - June Production handbook yesterday. Not opening for ordering.

I think I'm just going to go buy something else this week. Personally I think they are not going to offer a '14 CRD in the '13 calendar year. I think it's 50% marketing to get a lot of press about the truck early, and 50% avoiding having to support the power-train at the dealership service department level until closer to when the Ram 1500 will be out with this engine.

That actualy makes too much sense. I imagine the ram will be the bread and butter for ths engine, not the jeep. I wonder when it will actualy find its way into a ram. press release says third quarter of 2013.

Right now Id say the best case for the Jeep would be 3rd quarter of 2013. My guess is either the ram wont really get it until sometime in 2014 OR they will hold off on the Jeep until 2014. I cant see Chrysler dealer network trying to support a new (to them) engine technology in two different chasis.

We need to ask the Chevy and Milous equivelants that work on the ram line what they are seeing.
