Icetech, interesting. Brings the curiosity out of me. Do Overland come with this heavy duty cooling? Anyone?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

"Chrysler and Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne explained to the Automotive News that the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be available with a new common rail diesel (CRD) option for the US market."

Sergio better speed this release up... We are losing patience quickly. If they didn't know when this would come out they should have just kept quiet.

You can go to wk2jeeps.com to find out all the features available for each model.

But to answer your question, yes

I would consider something more along the lines of the Land Rover as a direct competitor to the Jeep.
I'd agree to a point.

It depends on what you are looking to compare.

Features, price, power, or overall function (or some combo of them). For offroad, it's not even close, the Jeep would thump the Ford handily. However, for your average family, not looking to go scampering up a hillside, the Jeep actually does have a great deal of competition:
  • Audi Q5
  • Audi Q7
  • BMW X3
  • BMW X5
  • Dodge Durango
  • Ford Explorer
  • GMC Acadia
  • Honda Pilot
  • Land Rover Evoque
  • Land Rover LR2
  • Mercedes Benz ML
  • Mercedes Benz GL
  • Nissan Pathfinder
  • Nissan Murano
  • Range Rover
  • Toyota 4Runner
  • Toyota FJ Cruiser
  • Toyota Highlander
  • Volkswagen Touareg
Just to name a few. Again, all depending on what you are looking to compare. I've checked out more than a few on this list, and most were axed either because they lacked the features I wanted, got crap mileage, were not comfortable, or where ridiculously overpriced (or any combo of those).

What the CRD has going for it is a lot... it would have even more, if it was on a lot... but it's not and it's not showing any signs of making it there anytime soon.

Leaving those of us in the CRD fanclub with a dwindling list of options depending on what we need, when we need it, and why we need it.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Great - I get to look at someone else's 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited in Billet Silver with 20's at work...BUT it don't have the LuxII Package

Must admit, from photos on here, Billet Silver looks a bit lighter that I had expected - maybe because the sun was shining full on?

Is it fall yet

The thing is.. would you rather have them release it when its not ready, then have a ton of problems.. or wait 6-8 months and release it as good as they can? Releasing it when its not perfect would cause serious hatred for people that were thinking of going CRD in the future...

The company line seems to indicate that they aren't fixing problems. They are just building them to export instead.

Yup.

There's nothing wrong with them at all. The engines have been in use for a couple years now (ask an Aussie).

They have been building them and shipping them to the EU and Aussie/Kiwi's now for a good solid few months.

There's nothing wrong with the rigs at all. The hold up is management driven or at most, drive by supply of the emissions control components.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I am still committed to the CRD. In the beginning of September I may decide to switch and order a Gasoline Model if the CRD still isn't available. As much as I hate to admit it, if they decided to cancel the CRD completely in the U.S., my best choice still may be the GC. Regardless, once I don't need to flat tow I will be going to the Porsche Cayenne Diesel.

I am gaining a lot over my Jetta Sportwagen TDI; one thing I am not gaining is cargo space. I gain 3 cubic feet behind the second row and I lose 4 cubic in cargo capacity on top. (My Thule 2100 won't fit on the GC.)
