Looks like they are giving themselves some more breathing room, in case they miss the "June 26th" start date. One source had told me *maybe* late May but that doesn't seem likely now.

1% wow they really aren't making much of a commitment to diesel are they. If the 1% is true it may be right what some people are saying that its a marketing gimmick. I think it's time to take a look at VW.

Appreciate the honesty. If they can't get Diesels out to dealers by July I fear I will need to reconsider as well.... I simply can't go without a primary vehicle that long. Guess VW or another ML?

1% for the CRD certainly does seem like a pretty small number, but still would be a lot of jeeps.

For comparison purposes, I wonder what the percentages are for the other manufacturers for North America? VW and Audi Diesels are probably more than 1%, but still a very small percentage, certainly under 5%. I don't see very many. Same with BMW and Mercedes. I reckon the Porche is under 1%. I see a lot of Cayennes here in the greater Los Angeles area, and I have never seen a diesel.

The Cayenne is a low build quantity yes but Mercedes is 70% Diesel global Build on ML and GL.

Mind you they are saying 1% and likely that is a U.S. Alotment as they have already been shipping those deisels to the Aussies for a couple of years. The U.S. has the lowest Deisel sales for Mercedes. Even in Canada I happen to know that in 2011 that the Diesel sales in ML alone made up close to 78%.

There is zero chance of diesels showing up to dealers by July I can guarantee that. Late September maybe.

Over 20% of VW sales in the USA are now diesel. And the Passat is being targeted for 30% diesel sales in the next year or so. (Passat TDI sales in the USA stand now at 26%.)

VW Looks For Passat Diesel Demand to Rise to 30 Percent - Forbes

A 1% target from Jeep for diesel production this year? That's either incredibly short-sighted from a Chrysler/Jeep business standpoint, IMO...or the various conspiracy theories that are floated here sometimes about the CRD being a marketing gimmick, well maybe they are true. Sad.

This is what the Chrysler regional rep said to me when we discussed the order the beginning of February.... I do have one actually ordered with a VON

" All Cherokee diesel’s will remain in BE/BG status till production can fill these orders. This will not be a rapid build and will likely take several months to advance into scheduling. "

Now if he had have said 6 or 7 months I would have not dropped my vehicle early. Oh well my bad for believing the Chrysler rep..... Got a Lifetime membership here so in a few years when there are some around maybe will try again.

I will wait to make sure that there won't be an actual June build before jumping ship but the release timing doesn't make any sense to me considering they talked about the Diesel at every auto show..... AND they are still shipping elsewhere.

Just Epically disappointed folks..... Been lurking for a while and following the status of the release for nearly a year. I badly wanted to purchase a North American brand again but I am thinking it isn't happening.

I have driven a few of these 3.0s from a number of different manufacturers and I simply can't go back to driving gas. Well hopefully Milous has some more pleasant information on the subject in the next week.

The thing I really fear is a 1% build rate.. nobody making diesel is that low.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Geeze that sucks it's taking so long for the diesel and then a Hemi price increase. I really wanted the diesel, but I could see my wife forcing us to settle or jump to another brand with these issues.

Ill see if I can find that info on Monday. It's no longer in my dealer connect email but I'm pretty sure I saved it on my computer at work.

I don't think it's a gimmick. If it is, it's a costly one. If Milous is awake I'm sure I sent it to him. Anything like that I want to make sure he gets it, and I don't recall an email telling me he already knows(which happens all the time). Not that I can recall much tonight, I never knew real root beer had such a high alcohol content.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Regarding my post on diesel percentages from various manufactures, I meant respect to vehicles in the same class as the Grand Cherokee sold in the USA. Not sedans, etc...

The majority of diesels I see that are comparable to the GC are Mercedes MLs, then Touregs. I see some X5s diesels. I don't think that the Q7 or the GL is directly comparable to the GC.

Of course nothing really has the capabilities of the GC, except for the Range Rover which does not have a diesel option for the US. It is also double the price.
