Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I'm still holding out hope that we start CRD production for Jeep in July (or late June) with no more delays. We've all been disappointed over the past few months but from some of the signs such as dealer training etc. it does appear they are gearing up [fingers crossed].

Read Milous' old posts. They are basically saying that the delay is that "Europe is almost out of 2013s, is not getting 2014 gas engines yet, and are getting all produced CRDs to fill the void".

As Europe is in depression, I assume they are mostly going to Australia.

I am curious to know if Au is getting the exact same 2014 CRDs that we "will eventually" be getting. Or are they getting 2013 CRDs, 6 speed transmissions, and ones without the urea tank that the US will get? The specs on the VM engine are better for the US, when compared to last years European specs. So is the old or new version VM engine being shipped out? Also, does anyone know if the ones going to Au are produced at Jefferson North, where ours "will eventually" be made"?

All the motors are actually built in Italy. Oz should be getting the same CRD with 8sp, less the urea because that is a us requirement only.

Yup. All GCs are assembled at JNAP...

Except for a final assy operation in Mexico for that market and then there will most likely be an assy plant in china soon for vehicles destined only for that market.

So it almost sounds as though we are not really waiting for CRD production to be "started" at JNAP, as they are already making them there for Oz.

What we really are waiting for is for CRD production to be "increased" at the JNAP so that they have enough to start selling to the US market. With the only real difference between the two trucks being the urea tank, as urea catalyst gets added in at the end of the exhaust process, it is hard to imagine that difference would cause a delay.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

That's what Milious confirmed a couple weeks ago. They have already shipped thousands to Oz. They need to catch up with demand over there first, thus the delay over here where the diesel market is much, much smaller.

It appears that the production if the CRD itself is the bottleneck, as JNAP is already running at capacity in terms of JGC out the door.

The delay in the North American market doesn't seem (IMO) to be games/ploy/manipulation or any other reason for a conspiracy. It appears to be a forecasting or execution problem in production increase of the CRD motor itself.

As the markets in the Eastern Hemisphere are very diesel dependant the (unfortunately correct) decision was made to ship all available CRDs East to protect Jeep market share. The North American market, having less competition for diesels and being largely unproven will, of course, still suffer but not as dramatically.

I doubt I need to point out many (very educated) JG members holding out for the CRD gave in to buy a V8.

I believe the North American CRD delay is just a victim of mismanagement and/or rose-coloured glasses in terms of the aggressive launch. A delay due to incompetence is only slightly less frustrating, but it's much better then being lied to... IMO.

The North American diesel market will remain undeveloped until they SELL US THE D°^•% TRUCK!

Sorry, that felt good.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I couldn't wait anymore, and when at the dealer to look at a new '14 GC Summit, I played around with a '13 Ram 1500 Longhorn. It had many of the same bells and whistles (8.4" screen, air suspension, 4x4, 8 speed, etc.) and they came way down in price with lots of incentives (i.e. over 10,000 off sticker). I couldnt pass it p and will pick it up Monday.
