That job, even at an indie mech, would have cost a ton of money. And the service at the dealer preserves resale value. It's a very nice perk and one that would make me buy a BMW again if I'm ever back in the market for a sedan.
Yes I got a loaner GLK every time I went in. I got free pads and rotors under warranty once too but I didn't have free maintenance.
I am just saying on a Diesel SUV like I had, the total cost over ownership is lower before I add in the maintenance. Even if I added a rental car for each service visit it would even get close.
If the Euro companies charged the same service rates the do across the pond it would be fine bit they screw you on everything.
Eg. Ad blue tank is 2/3 full (I drive a lot of highway at higher speeds). What does the Mercedes dealer do, charge you for the entire tank and there is no ad blue bottle left in the car afterwards.
When it really gets down to it a JGC will cost less to own an operate. I worked it out, in 5 years of regular maintenance on an ML I can buy a new 8 speed tranny for the JGC. Maintenance should out weight replacement parts.
