Your post has me confused. The Ram 1500 allegedly has headroom of 40.3". The Grand Cherokee w/o sunroof has 39.9".

You know I was thinking that myself.. I'm 6'1 and my Ram has tons of head room, and I have the seat half way up.. I agree, the seats don't compare to the Jeep's, but that was expected..

My question would be, how did he not notice that it was uncomfortable on the test drive?

I need that 39.9" headroom in the Grand Cherokee. I don't understand why I cannot order the Luxury Group II package and delete the sunroof. How does it hurt Jeep to build that for me when they are already building Grand Cherokees without a sunroof?

Packages are grouped so that parts can be grouped. It's cheaper on our end, logistically speaking.. Also, if everyone was allowed to order whatever they want, leaving this and that out, or adding this and that, then we'd have 10 times as many build errors, and parts costs would go up, bc some unpopular parts wouldn't be used in such high volume.. With option packages, the consumers collectively drive down the costs of parts. If every Jeep were build-to-suit, they'd cost A LOT more!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Having the sunroof usually ADDS more headroom, likely including the WK2.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

For the security and convenience group on the Laredo E, you have to buy the sunroof, which I do not want. What does a cargo compartment cover and heated front seats have in common with a sunroof, that you have to buy the sunroof to get the package? Absolutely nothing. A lot of people buying the Laredo don't want the sunroof but this is forcing them to spend a 1,000 needlessly. Never had a sunroof and never will.

Actually, more people prefer having a sunroof, than not.. And not just with Jeeps.

Personally, I've never bought a car without a sunroof, and never will.

I have seen on certain vehicles where you need to get a sunroof to have steering wheel controls or a certain wheel to access the sunroof option... (clearly not an issue with the Jeep). Frankly Jeep is pretty good with the free flow options and the bundling is just to keep the overall costs down by having less variables. I don't think I would say Jeep is forcing anyone to do anything, either you want that option group or not.

How about the fact if you want a hemi you need to spend 8k to upgrade to the limited with the hemi, or if you want the diesel you have to spend the cost of the limited, plus the $4500 for the engine, plus the lux 2 package. Or how about on the Laredo E if you want the Ra3 radio you are forced into the 18" wheel and 8.4 group for $1495, when the cost of the radio alone is $395?

On a 5 mile test drive, you are looking at more than just the seats. I learned a tough lesson.

Also, the Ram has a sunroof that I think took quite a bit away from the head room. Regardless of what the numbers say, all that matter is how you feel/fit in the seats.

Read the specs. It detracts almost 2".

I thought the assembly line was run by a computer that sends the right parts at the right time.
