Anyway, you're correct sir... Thanks for playing.
Time to call the dealer and see if I can bail on my HEMI order and re-order a CRD. Since the tranny is the bottleneck anyway, getting a HEMI in July or a CRD in august, hmmm....

It doesn't surprise me if its next Tuesday when the diesel becomes available to order, that's when I'm getting the hemi. Waited months for the diesel...but the hemi will be good, and maybe in a few years I'll get a diesel. Gotta keep the boys at the factory busy

Not weird... one transmission, multiple motors, multiple platforms = higher quality and standards. Think about it the same Tranny in the RAM with the CRD will tow likely around 9500 pounds or more so it is actually over built and engineered for the Jeep.

They should not hold up sold orders though, just ones for dealer stock. If they have tranies, they should go to sold orders in the order they were received.

I agree with this, or they should order sufficient stock, it isn't like they are a new manufacturer that doesn't have experience with autos...

You might have missed Chevy's note that the supplier has been unable to keep up with the orders not that they didn't order enough to start with.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Chevy how much/long quality control do you think will be done on the first batch of CRD orders? What are you thinking as far as delivery times... currently most are 6-7 weeks from order... think 8-10 weeks for CRD?

Saw the message about the supplier keeping up. He also said that is not the issue. They have transmissions but are holding them. They should not hold up a sold customer order.

I saw his note and respect him to the max for what he does, and, it is valid but still not acceptable reason for delays. I get the whole system of manufacture, and shortages can occur due to unsuspected demand, but that doesn't excuse it. My opinion applies to all markets, and I have succumbed to it before (and put up with it at times, but not at other times). I love my V8 Grand and wouldn't trade it for anything (and have told everyone I know to buy a new Grand), but I feel if a company decides to advertise a product (like the diesel) as if it is available starting months ago, it shouldn't use shortage of parts when it finally decides to start producing a heavily advertised product that is the 'best they are made of' several months later; if the commercials stated it would be available sometime in the next year in normal speed language, I would feel differently. I am sure their fine print in the commercials said something along the lines of 'we chose to advertise the diesel due to the awesome mpg, but reserve the right to never release it after we strike gold in v6 and v8 sales domestically', but that don't make it right :-).

I am not trying to start a war or anything, if I wasn't using the mobile app, I would insert the huggles or equivalent smiley here!

I think they are restricting new orders on the SRT to reserve capacity for the CRD, not that they are holding on already placed orders. SRT is low volume and CRD is expected to be as well, zero sum game on demand vs supply.

They are holding existing orders placed recently. (My order is on hold) They should not hold any order if they have the parts to build it. Orders should be first come first serve.
