I posted a long version of this in the 2014 Diesel production thread but I though it would be interesting to mention here.

Spoke to a Touareg buyer today. He was driven to look at Diesel after 3 months of reading about all these amazing Jeep Diesels. After over a month of his dealer changing stories he bought elsewhere because how could there be that many around but nobody "makes them"??? Thought that was an interesting perspective from a customer.

It appears the average Joe is loosing patience but is also being driven to try Diesels because of the Jeep advertising.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Milous, in the past you have been able to squash false rumors such as, Wall Street analysts claiming that Fiat does not have enough working capital to put new Jeep models into production.

You have been able to confirm other rumors, such as CRD production currently going to meet demand in Oz, and logistical delays from suppliers being an issue.

Is it inappropriate to ask, are you allowed to let us know whats responsible for the current holdup and an estimated approximate range for how long we are going to have to wait for the CRD? Even a wide but honest range would be great. For example, "Well meeting California's emission standards caused us to need XYZ parts and the supplier for XYZ parts gave us a 1-3 month estimate to ramp up their production. We are currently 2 months into that estimate and are not sure if they will be on time".

The rumors from dealers, suppliers, and those who just like to predict, are all over the map. I am hoping that the powers that be will not think it is so bad jut to let us know what is going on. Thanks if you can.

I know it insignificant to Chrysler but I personally can save 2 Diesel sales if I just knew what was happening.... can't guess when it comes to a customer of a company I advise

Well, that happened to me. If there was a set date for production, even if it meant the end of the year, I would have waited patiently. As of now, I am waiting for the July built of a Cayenne.

I love Jeeps, but frankly, they were the pre-foreign ownership Jeeps. I am glad that it keeps employment up in this country. I am not happy that the foreign owners are trying to squeeze as much profit as they can. Specially Fiat. If America is the savior of Fiat, they should give us preferential treatment.

Whatever the technical issues are for getting the Diesel out to the American consumer, I can't believe that a oorporation that has tons of engineers (don't they own also Ferrari) can't solve them on time.

I believe you are referring to Maserati

As for foreign ownership. From a guy who crosses a lot of borders for work... the investment and much of the turn around is coming from FIAT. Please remember that it doesn't matter which corporation owns it. That money in dividends is going back to shareholders globally, even back home.

More importantly it is paying Chevy, Marlon and Milous (not sure about Scott). I had no issues buying an ML 320 because I knew it was made by hard working Americans but just remember the decision to purchase from a manufacturer does not mean you know exactly where your dollars end up. At least with Fiat I can say I know I am investing in a huge uptick in market share in North America. If a few families in Italy do better because of it, good on them, their problems are bigger than mine right now.

Sorry kind of personal but just how I feel. It is a global village.... they fail we all fail.

I believe Fiat owns both, Ferrari and Maserati (if you look closely, Maserati cars have Ferrari engines). I take the global village thing, but you should thank the hand that saved you. It is true that Fiat stepped in when some wanted to see Chrysler go totally bankrupt. Still whatever small car technology Fiat has given Chrysler does not compare with the lifeline that Chrysler is to Fiat right now. As of now, without the American consumer buying tons of Chrysler products, Fiat is toast.

My point is that from Milous posts, it is obvious that the CRDs are being shipped to other markets, such as Australia. Whether it is because the emission standards are more relaxed overseas or because of marketing issues, it makes the American consumers who want a CRD feel like second in priority.

I completely agree in the failure to get things moving but I am not sure it is engineering. Can I blame 100% of it on managment absolutely, regardless of location.

The rest of it is far more Grey on who is saving who. Just wanted to make the point that it is never cut and dry. There are always a lot of expected and unexpected benifits and problems due to the Global Village. I can say the same thing about old Chrysler and old Chrysler Transmissions... think they would have had the Brains to go get a better one from Germany way back in the day or did the "we need to build it" here thing stop that? The clearly very poor transmissions of intrepids and minivans could have caused the slide towards demise in the first place.

It is never that straight forward, that is all. I have to say that the extreme surge in popularity in North America must be at least somewhat be attributed to the new management so again who saved who... But to the ordering information thread... CRD Launch = Complete Fail! No arguement there. The fact they keep putting out the mailers and the TV Commercials is just insult to injury for guys like me and make me want to go out and buy the other guy's product. Which sucks for me because which principle do you choose, the one where you support the local guy or the one where you don't let people screw around with you (dealers give this impression by having no idea what is going on, not actually saying they are screwing with me).

Chivvalry's right. Psychotic, but absolutely right. We gotta take these bastards. Now, we could fight 'em with conventional weapons. That could take years and cost millions of lives. Oh no. No, in this case, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.

I rely on Chivvalry to be psychotic... makes me feel more normal than I am.

I am still sticking with waiting till the END of June. If I can get some concrete info by then all will be well. If not well then we will see.

Milous already said ordering won't be open until August. How much more concrete info do you need?
