One has just taken to offering me "A great deal on V8!"
Two are still completely quiet.
The last guy said and I quote, "Jeep has it's head up it's ass and even with a flashlight and a map, they clearly have no idea how to get out."

So... I hear GM launched their diesels in their sedans without being a bunch of clueless f$#@tards... maybe time to go see what everyone else is doing again.
I already posted this in the Diesel Production Thread... but search 2014 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee. No sign of a 3.0 liter diesel certification.

Basic Search | Document Index System | US EPA

So, while there is no memo or info from Chrysler HQ...I'd say the lack of even an application for emissions certification is a pretty damning piece of evidence. Especially how new the EPA is...

My pet theory, for a while, is Jeep having trouble passing EPA and/or California emissions. Having trouble with suppliers that supply the additional parts for the urea-SCR catalytic converter would fall under that category also.

My pet peeve, is Fiat not allowing their representatives to tell us exactly what is happening. How on earth did large companies ever get the idea that poor communication and keeping loyal customers in the dark is good business practice? In their absolute worst case scenario, if we knew the finest details of every problem and delay, how would that hurt Fiat? Their logic in this is corporate logic, which is not logical.

My bigger concern: Would a company that spends that much time generating Hype...and hiding delays behind a firewall of "nothing to see here" take care of me after I spend $55K? Now I'm not so sure.

Your estimate currently jibes with the latest edit to post #1, and my own best guess. However, IMHO your source is an unscrupulous dealer.

Fiats communication still stinks.

I'd agree.

Whom ever Shannon is talking to knew this before anyone else did.

Fiats communication still stinks.

There are three possibilities:
  1. They are unwilling to communicate.
    • i.e. They do not want to disclose some ugly fact as to the reason for the delay. Especially with the refusal to recall a zillion cars, they don't need anymore bad press. (At best, any recall would only slightly change the situation.)
  2. They are unable to communicate.
    • There is no corporate standard or way to communicate anything. (There was no press release when the non-diesel was able to be ordered. Only from the ordering system was anyone alerted.)
  3. They have nothing to communicate.
    • There is no way they can predict definitely when ordering will be possible and they feel a press release really won't help us.

Test drove a Mercedes GLK250 Bluetec yesterday. I really liked it. It is definitely a smaller vehicle than the JGC, but honestly, I don't need a bigger vehicle than my current Murano, and slightly smaller is probably ok. I actually asked the sales person to get a tape measure to see if an 8' 2x4 would fit in it, and it does (I make frequent trips to Home Depot). Better MPGs, smaller price tag, really nice drive and I like the smaller form factor and it will probably fit my needs. I'm seriously considering this vehicle instead of waiting for the CRD. There are a number in local inventory here in the Minneapolis area, so I could be driving one in a few days if I can swing the right deal. May drive the Q5 as well since they have announced pricing and availability of the TDI, although it appears pricier by about $9k compared to a comparably equipped GLK250.

Just keep in mind that they are two totally different platforms. The GLK is a nice car, have driven them a number of times as loaners from my local Mercedes Service but it is still a car. Durability wise I think the Q5 is going to stand up better in the long run even if it does never leave the pavement.

One piece of important advise about both of those vehicles but more so the Mercedes is find out what the actual service costs are. Mercedes is the most expensive service by at least 3 x of any other vehicle I have ever driven.... After year two they get very costly to maintain. Just make sure the Mercedes dealer tells you what the C and D service is on the GLK and what the Tranny Service costs. If they say that depends, find another dealer, if they tell you sit down first.

Did you test drive the ML350 BlueTec by any chance? My wife is going to trade in her Saab in two years and we'd like to get a diesel then. (Not sure if the Jeep CRD will be out by then)
