Hah. That's what I said for the June 11th order date. Let's hope you're right!

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

My dealer called and said he had a 2014 JGC brochure set aside for me. When I got there he had one left, mine. He was clearly irritated that Jeep announced the 2014's in January, started ordering in February (as I recall) but only now got the brochure's and the dealership was already out of them.

The brochure, actually more of a small book, is really something. I bet they cost a pretty penny. Anyway, I copied the pages on the Ecodiesel. Note that it says "available", not late availability. Not sure if that means anything or not. The dealer hasn't heard anything, I'm still hoping August is the order date.

I was looking at the Jeep Jamborees as they look like fun when I (hopefully) get my CRD. I'm a little nervous about dinging up a $50k vehicle, but aside from that they require tow hooks. The Summit doesn't come with those (but the Overland does, I don't understand that). Can they be added?

There is a thread on adding tow hooks...

I found some stuff on it. Looks like you have to hack up the lower facia. Doesn't look very good. Not at all a "factory" looking install. I guess that's why some go for the Overland and it's Trail Rating. If I could get the Jeep Brown interior on the Overland, I might consider it, but the interior color is one of the factors that make the Summit my likely choice.

"available" in this context means "not standard equipment" I think. There is no implication that you can order it now.

There's a thread on the topic of choosing between Overland/Summit, too. There's quite a few who struggled with the same choice.

Funny, that's why I chose Overland, for the Indigo Blue/Brown interior

Ya, love the dark brown interior in the Summit, but I don't need the tow hooks so it was no real issue for me.

How big of a deal is it to add the tow hooks, 2 bolts each? Suppose you could pull off the fascia and bolt the hooks on when you are there, unbolt them and put the fascia back on for the drive back?

On the outside chance that I actually attend one of these Jeep Jamborees, it might make more sense to rent a Wrangler for a day or two (if that is possible), rather than chop up my Summit to put tow hooks on it and then risk dinging up the car. The Jamborees just look like they would be something fun to do....

IMO, Jeep Jamborees are fun events, especially for those who either haven't taken their Jeeps off-road or who only do it infrequently and then only on mild roads. I did attend the JJ in Big Bear, CA about 7 years ago, when I was still running a 3 1/2" lift on my ZJ. Having been going to Moab offroading for the previous 5 years to that as well as other local trips with people from various forums, the JJ was pretty tame - they don't allow you to sign up for trails that are beyond your capacity or that of your rig. Having said that, they do provide a lot of benefits to those who don't ordinarily hit the trails, or belong to a club/forum for offroading.

If I do decide to purchase a new JGC Summit CRD when they finally start production (and I probably will), I will add the tow hooks, skid plates and some rocker protection, and intend to take it on mild to medium off-road excursions and extended expo-type camping trips (the CRD should be amazing for distance on a tank compared to my highly modified ZJ, which I'm keeping, BTW!).

Check out the Jeep Jamboree website for the "required equipment" page - at a minimum, you will need tow hooks front and rear, skid plates, fire extinguisher, and it used to be at least recommended to have rocker protection (I am not current with their requirements - check for yourself). Having said that, the JJ crews seem to take into consideration that you're a novice at off-roading and will help you out so that your experience is a good one. That was my experience; YRMV.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

When you're waiting for your Jeep to be built and you know it should be withing about a week that it's started it's pretty gruel to get and advertisement email from Jeep that gets your hopes up for a second.
