I gave up on Florida, as some dealers wanted as much as $995 doc fee, and so ordered my Limited through a NC dealer where I bought my last LTD. It really matters not what is charged as long as the final price after discounts is less than the next dealer. If one lives in Florida, and buys in another state, the car must be titled and licensed within 30 days in Florida and a bill of sale and manufacturers certificate of orgin must be obtained from the selling dealer and presented to the DMV along with proof of insurance and photo ID. The applicable sales tax must be paid at that time and the tax depends on the county of residence. In Orlando (Orange County) it is currently 6.5% and in Altamonte Springs, Winter Park (Seminole County) 6%.

In NC all I had to pay was $1.00 for paper tag and $13.65 for emissions inspection fee.

In MD I just used my Florida Plate that and the bill of sale is all I need anywhere.
I have bought out of state as well. I always stop at the County Office to register even before I get home. (The office is less than 3 miles from my front door.) The Discretionary Sales Surtax(county) portion of tax is only paid on the first $5000 in Florida.

Pasco County Example:

Price Paid: $50,000.00
State Sales tax: (6% x $50,000): $3,000.00
$5,000 cap on surtax at 1%: $50.00
Total: $53,050.00

Orange County Example:

Price Paid: $50,000.00
State Sales tax: (6% x $50,000): $3,000.00
$5,000 cap on surtax at .5%: $25.00
Total: $53,025.00

I didn't see that 2195.00 with the 100.00 deductible for the max care unlimited mileage. If this is the case I'll be canceling the one bought at the dealer and using the money spent there for the one priced at 2195. I'm sure
Once Chrysler notifies them to give back the check they got for selling it to me they won't be happy with getting less on the deal but who cares.

Correct. When I bought my F350 Diesel Dually I had to go to Miami to find a dealer that would make a fair deal. But since I turned in my tag to the Fla DMV on my Jeep GC that bit the dust and went to the salvage yard, I got a surrendered tag certificate so when the new vehicle is registered, I will NOT have to pay the Florida Registration fee which if I recall correctly is $188. If one transfers their current tag no fee required but in my case, since my Jeep went to the salvage yard, the tag came off and I surrendered it to the DMV. Florida charges this fee on ALL new vehicles when no previously issued registration and tag is involved so some Florida dealers may screw their customer further in registration of the vehicle. Therefore, anyone buying out of state when titling their new ride should know this fact and either have the certificate of surrender of tag OR at least tell the Florida DMV at the time of registration about the surrendered tag in order to avoid this fee

Your dealer is a lying sack of $#!). Florida law does not require any doc fee. It requires disclosure of the doc fee. Report the liar to the Florida BMV.

The ones that say they will adjust the Doc fee say they have to take it out of the sale price and then add it back in. They have said they must charge everyone the same.

Regardless, I have my request in at the dealer for the maximum amount I will pay a local dealer. Otherwise, I'm going out of state.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

I know I mentioned this before... It doesn't matter if the Doc fee is $1000.00 or $0, Big picture matters. Just make sure to get the entire deal in writing because frankly the discount a dealer may give you on Factory Extended warranty may make the whole thing make sense even though the doc fee is higher.

The sales process is all a big game, smoke and mirrors, Tax in price and or bottom line payment once my cash is on the table are the only numbers that matter.

A dealer(Ferman), specifically the business manager, while in the process of replying to this post told me specifically that service contracts cannot be discounted under state law.

Edit: After further research, I cannot blame a dealer for this. Chrysler Corporation is under the false impression that Warranty Contracts rates are still being regulated by the state of Florida. Their computer systems will not allow the rate to be discounted even though they could be as of June, 2010. Further than that, I believe Ford and GMC have the same problem. The State of Florida has clearly said they no longer regulate Warranty Companies. In fact, the Mopar Protection contract itself says the State of Florida does not regulate the rates. When I had a Business manager at a random Chrysler / Jeep Dealer in Florida print the contract and read it he was surprised and did not understand why he could not discount the rate.

Here is the Law:

Quote:
FLORIDA SB 2176 – SERVICE AGREEMENT & WARRANTY ASSOCIATIONS PASSES
Florida’s Senate Bill 2176, proposing numerous changes to the state’s service agreement/service warranty association laws, was signed by the Governor yesterday and is effective January 1, 2011 although many sections affecting service warranties are effective upon signature of the Governor.

Key provisions of the legislation include:

Exempts, from regulation under the Florida Insurance Code, motor vehicle service agreements that are sold to “non-consumers”, i.e., commercial entities or purposes

Broadens the definition of home warranty service agreements.

Eliminates the requirement to file warranty service agreements with the Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR) for approval; however, the amendment provides that OIR may order a form not to be used if it doesn’t meet statutory requirements for content. This applies to all forms of service agreements or service warranties.

Eliminates the requirement for home warranty associations and motor vehicle service agreement companies to file rates with OIR

Requires that all forms of warranty contracts sold in Florida must be accompanied by a written disclosure to the consumer that the rate charged for the contract is not subject to regulation by the OIR[Florida Office of Insurance Regulation]. This particular requirement is effective July 1, 2011.

Eliminates requirement to file quarterly financial reports in favor or an annual financial report requirements for warranty associations

Makes periodic OIR examinations discretionary and provides factors to consider in choosing to conduct an examination

Provides that there is no violation for knowingly overcharging the cost of a motor vehicle service agreement if a service agreement company refunds any excess premium within 45 days

Makes a failure to provide a complete sample copy of the terms and conditions of a service or warranty agreement prior to sale an unfair practice, but provides that this information may be provided online

Allows premium increases in renewal home warranty contracts if supported by claims history or claims cost data

Removes OIR’s ability to require additional regular or special reports from home warranty associations

Provides that unlicensed activity by warranty associations is a first-degree misdemeanor
This goes to prove don't buy a car in Florida most dealerships in Florida are dishonest even when faced with the law.

I should add this addendum, the "CARMAX" dealer I called knew of this disclosure rule. He has actually read all the disclosures in the paper work for the contracts. Carmax doesn't discount service contracts or anything else in any state. But they don't tell you they can't because of state law. This is simply the way they prefer to do business. So, not all dealers in Florida are dishonest or conveniently uneducated.
