Something just occurred to me. At the NAIAS, on the jeep website, and various other websites around the net, even a spot on TV, All state that the 2014 Grand Cherokee 3.0l diesel will be available the first quarter of 2013. Yet WE know that production of the diesel is not slated to start until March 25th, 2013. So just how is jeep going to have these on the lots by the end of March?
Simple answer is that, they are not.
This little factoid lends credence to the theory that while jeep does intend to have the diesel, They are really only doing it as a marketing ploy. Sort of like a $50,000 electric Toyota Rav 4, 'yes we are going to build it!' What they don't want to tell you is that they really don't want to actually sell it.
Jeep appears to be doing much of the same thing. Chrysler could have brought us a diesel jeep at any time. I refer to this article.

Now granted, these wonderful sounding vehicles would not have been CARB compliant, but so what? Just stick a label on them that says "Not for sale in the state of California"
and your covered.
Why not allow those of us that live in 'fly-over' country an opportunity? I wouldn't even care if it was a right hand drive. Just make it available, I'll worry about the emmissions checks in my own state.
Oh wait, that's right, we don't have smog checks. I guess that's because we don't have any smog.
Yes, i got carried away with the faces, nobody is talking.
