So much for trail tested.
Nearly all manufacturers design their own interiors but contract the manufacturing out. I would guess the 70% of our truck is contracted out.

Yes, the design specifications for components do make them "trail rated". Premium and budget components can all come from the same manufacturer.

To each their own, but the "pretty evil, eh?" comment kinda tells the story.

My advice. He should delete his own profile and re-register on the forum with a less offensive name and approach....again, just a suggestion.

^^^^^^ YES. Totally with you there. This is really not in the general spirit of the site and I would say you have a very good idea that would show some respect on his/her part.

I missed updating post #1 in one of the two places the Overland MSRP was listed. Now fixed. $46,195/$43,940. (the base price was increased $200, the Advanced Technology Group went up $100, and they raised the CD player by $100.00.

My guess is the employees of those "70%" companies don't have the same benefits and wages as those at JNAP. In Detroit, though, I am sure they're happy to have jobs. I guess at least the seat frame people look like they might be making more; did I hear 10%.

As the economy improves and the job market gets tighter, outsourcing will be reduced. The unions will have more leverage to force companies to reduce outsourcing to non union shops, eventually making outsourcing not profitable.

I would expect a pretty good price increase next year. An improving job market will lead to increased inflation rate.

Until the next meltdown.

We are confusing multiple discussions... The seat frame people are not in South Africa.

Michigan is changing....like it or not. Detroit is bankrupt. Outsourcing is here to stay. The JGC would cost 70k and compare with the quality of 40k vehicles if not for other companies making the majority of the parts.

These "70%" outsourcing companies throughout the USA aren't going away. If they did, the big 3 couldn't compete and the premier jobs at the final assembly plants would dry up too. The senior employees already cut deals for protection which allow $14/hr wages for new hires which is in step with new hires throughout the country.

We are in a world economy. I don't like it any more than the folks at JNAP. I would love to see everyone do well...but its not the reality we live in. Our skills and value are constantly being compared with everyone else worldwide.

Its just the way it is....thinking this will change is not realistic. The market won't support it. Consumers will continue to demand better quality and prices they can afford. Lean companies provide these products through global competition....and therefore the standard of living in the USA is necessarily falling. It affects us all.

I think that's pessimistic, to think the economy in Detroit will never improve. If the unemployment rate drops enough then those companies, the production has been outsourced to, will be forced to increase wages, thus increasing the cost to Chrysler for those parts. Once the cost to produce those parts internally is less than outsourcing, they won't be outsourced any more.

I don't think the automobile industry will move out of Michigan.

I think everyone has forgotten what an improving economy is.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

As usual of course I see both sides of the story.... however the current conversation about the seats seem like much more of a local issue. (not local to JNAP but local to North American Supply).

Yes, I only heard or read bits and pieces about the frame issue. I didn't know they were being outsourced to South Africa I figured they were talking about a domestic supplier.

Regardless, of where any manufacturing is outsourced to, the same statement apples. In an improving economy, outsourcing becomes less profitable; regardless of where the manufacturing is outsourced to.
