Hang on, remember although the diesel is roughly the same price as the V8 here in Aus, BOTH are a $5000+ premium over the V6.
Although as I stated elsewhere (maybe) it is not that simple as the diesel and V8 also effectively have the tow pack added.
Our Tow rating for the V6 is 2,200Kg, the diesel and V8 are 3,500Kg.
Differences are below, this based on Drive Away pricing, so includes dealer delivery, registration etc…included.
Diesel premium over V6: Laredo $5250, Ltd $6038 & Overland $6728
V8 Hemi premium over V6: Laredo N/A, Ltd $6249 & Overland $7086
Initially I was shocked at your pricing on the diesel, but that was because I was looking at it compared to your V8 pricing, not realising that you pay much less for your V8 than we do.
The price difference currently being thrown about (vs the V6 petrol) is completely normal for here and Europe.
FYI, here the diesel V8 in the Toyota Landcruiser, commands a $10,000 premium over the petrol V8; every review I read of that car, said the 10K was a hard choice financially but well worth it.
Not because the petrol V8 was junk, and not just because of fuel savings, as much for driving experience as anything.
Same thing here for GCs reviews, the diesel might not make clear financial sense to purchase over the other engines, but you don’t just buy diesel engines for the better mileage.
For me, it is partly for superior mileage, but mostly because of the superior towing capabilities/manners when towing our horses.
