Although as I stated elsewhere (maybe) it is not that simple as the diesel and V8 also effectively have the tow pack added.
Our Tow rating for the V6 is 2,200Kg, the diesel and V8 are 3,500Kg.

Differences are below, this based on Drive Away pricing, so includes dealer delivery, registration etc…included.
Diesel premium over V6: Laredo $5250, Ltd $6038 & Overland $6728
V8 Hemi premium over V6: Laredo N/A, Ltd $6249 & Overland $7086

Initially I was shocked at your pricing on the diesel, but that was because I was looking at it compared to your V8 pricing, not realising that you pay much less for your V8 than we do.
The price difference currently being thrown about (vs the V6 petrol) is completely normal for here and Europe.
FYI, here the diesel V8 in the Toyota Landcruiser, commands a $10,000 premium over the petrol V8; every review I read of that car, said the 10K was a hard choice financially but well worth it.
Not because the petrol V8 was junk, and not just because of fuel savings, as much for driving experience as anything.

Same thing here for GCs reviews, the diesel might not make clear financial sense to purchase over the other engines, but you don’t just buy diesel engines for the better mileage.
For me, it is partly for superior mileage, but mostly because of the superior towing capabilities/manners when towing our horses.
Yes I understand the premium of the CRD or HEMI over the V6. My frustration stems from the fact that in other countries, the CRD is sold cheaper or the same as the HEMI. So why do they want to make it sooooo much more expensive than the HEMI in the USA? Obviously it does not cost them any more to manufacturer, so why the premium? I could see them arguing that demand is low, so prices will be high, but they already manufacturer thousands of them for international markets, so I don't really see that argument working -- worldwide demand will actually increase.

The only conclusion I can make is that they feel there is going to be alot of problems with the diesel in the US due to the "green" requirements here, so therefore they are trying to push buyers out of the market.

Maybe im just steaming, but does that make sense to others as well?

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information and Pricing

Demand for diesel is a lot higher in other countries then it is in the USA. Also, with all the new "green" laws going into affect, Chrysler most likely had to tweak and re-engineer a lot of parts of the Ecodiesel engine to meet new strict emission guidelines, mpg goals ect... Hopefully though all of pats frowns and red faces were maybe a delay for the CRD instead of a price hike.

This has made me look more close at a Limited, but my problem is I want the Limited with the Indigo/brown interior without QL. Or an Overland with the Indigo/brown interior without QL. I understand this is impossible so... I dunno. I'm torn. I may just slap some navy colored leather in my GC, add some brown accents and call it a day LOL.

Federalizing the powertrain wasn't cheap and engineering the urea injection cost money too; that plus the floated plans of putting the CRD in the 300 and wrangler should indicate they want to sell them. I don't think it is reliability concerns in the us market. By reading the Internet, one would think that every vw TDI grenades the fuel pump daily maiming everyone around, but that's not really the case.

I think they are looking at the current players (Toureg, BMW, Mercedes) and realizing they can offer a diesel SUV at a lower price to them but still command a huge premium due to the relative exclusivity in the market.

That may be valid however shortsighted strategy. There are a lot of diesel players about to hit the passenger market in the us (GM, Mazda have announced already) that will change the landscape drastically.

I think thy are going to market under the premise that they can easily lower the price via targeted incentives but it is really hard to raise the price after the fact if they are truly leaving money on the table.

I'm gonna wait and watch on this one...

I was ready to order last week, but my salesman was on vacation until yesterday. He was supposed to call yesterday, but didn't. I gave him until I finished lunch today and went to a dealer the same distance in the other direction. It didn't take long to order, they gave me what I wanted on the trade and the -1% deal on the car. I got to see the max steel in person.

I'm gonna sleep well tonight knowing it's done.

I won't even get anxious about a delivery date ... until I see folks posting pictures of there new ones here.

Tomorrow we will all know for sure about the diesel. I'm not going to say what I was told today. Put it this way, I laughed and told my friend whoever decided that is an idiot.

Pat can you give us a hint if it was strictly pricing related, or if it was something else as far as packages, timelines, etc?

Also is the pricing being released tomorrow the "official" pricing by Jeep?

Pricing higher than the preliminary Milous posted. Like I said its a good source but Jeep has a lot riding on the success of this engine so I'm hoping it includes some other stand alone options.
