Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information

Wow, I drive from Reno to SF this evening and when I get there the CRD motor option is about 2x as much as I thought it would be and the base overland got a significant price bump too. :(

Gotta crunch numbers. ::eek:

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information

Like others, I ran the math for my own personal scenario... In the best case scenario, the Diesel will take about 45,000 miles to make up the cost difference to the Hemi... and more like 80,000+ miles to make up the cost difference to the Penstar. That's assuming the Diesel does 20% better than EPA estimates, the cost of diesel stays flat in my area ($4/gal), and the cost of gas goes up 10% (from $3.40/gal -> $3.80/gal), and every mile driven is on the freeway with the engine fully broken in. I really can't slant it much more toward the Diesel; the results are already pretty unrealistic.

I often tow around 4-5,000 lbs, up to altitudes of about 7,000ft, so I was really thinking the Diesel would be great for me... but I don't plan on keeping the car long enough to justify that level of up-front investment, not even close. At this point, the Penstar is looking like a winner for me, even though that makes me quite sad. The extra ~150-200 miles per tank & extra 1,000 lbs of towing just aren't enough to make me interested.

I wonder why on earth there's such a big premium for upgrading to the Diesel... I'd expect that'll really dampen the demand.Hopefully the invoice price will be much closer!

And thanks for all the great info Milous.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information

CRD on the Summit version is $500 more then in the Overland? Does it have another Turbo or something???

Also, I'm confused on this:
OFF-ROAD ADVENTURE II (AWY) MSRP $295; with EXF or EZH $995
• Skid Plate Group (ADL)
• Fuel Tank Skid Plate Shield (XEE)
• Transfer Case Skid Plate Shield (XEF)
• Front Suspension Skid Plate (XEU)
• Underbody Skid Plate (XF3)
• Trail Rated Badge (MT2)
• P265/60R18 BSW AS On/Off Rd Tires (TP5)
• 18X8.0 Polished Aluminum Wheels (WBL)
• Quadra-Drive II (R) 4WD System (AWB)
• Selec-Speed (TM) Control (BNK)
• Elec LTD Slip Differential Rr Axle (DSF)
Don't you HAVE to have the V8 or CRD to get the AWB part of the ORA2 pack?

What's the $295 amount for to get a trail rated sticker on the side of your V6 and the skid plates?

I'm assuming Invoice will be about 10% under the MSRP for options (as it was for the previous model) but not 10% on the base trim (it was about 6% there).

The premium on the CRD is killer... the diff between the CRD and the V8 is roughly (in my area) about $300 a year given current fuel prices, EPA estimates and putting 15k miles on the rig per year.

...that's closing in on 8 years to pay off the diff (around 115k miles).

Now, granted, I am 100% sure the CRD will beat EPA estimates, but still... holy hell...

Given that CryFi doesn't have a warranty that covers the CRD out beyond the normal warranty, I think someone at CryFi should rethink one of these decisions (pricing on engine or the warranty issue).

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Ordering Information

The Diesels biggest saving will come when towing a heavy load. At that point the savings become huge. I would love to give some percentage style difference on consumption but I can't.

Basing of Aus figures for 5sp box, the Diesel reaches peak Torque from 1800RPM, while the Pentastar reaches it at 4300RPM.
Added to that is the massive difference in peak torque values, the diesel has 58.5% greater torque.

Oh.. no doubt.

Towing or hill climbing, the CRD will just beat either of the petrol engines into the ground both measured in speed and MPG (hell, it is faster then either one of them in a 0-60 without towing anything (source)).

I still plan on getting the CRD, but I'm NOT happy with the conditions (either the price point should have been in line with the V8 OR the warranty options should be the same as any other from CryFi).

That all said, versus my current rig, the CRD will make it's own payment in fuel savings once per year.

Having driven the V6... I just.. can't do it. It seems under powered and peak happy (the 5 speed was atleast). So it's either the V8 or the CRD. And in my experience, petrol engines do closer to the lower end of their EPA ratings while diesels trend to the higher end (usually beating the EPA estimates).

I am advised my 2014 order will be built in March and delivered in July to Australia.. still waiting on a VON.
But then again I ordered an Overland CRD and locally there is no (formal) advise if the Summit will come here in which case and depending on price gap I would change the order.

Milous-
Can an order be changed, for example, from Overland to Summit and stay in the "queue" so to speak?

Milous what does this mean for the Summit V8 pricing?
5.7L V8 MDS VVT ENGINE (EZH) 8-SPD AUTO 8HP70 TRANS (DFD) 27R [MSRP $995 / INV. $ 2,695]

MSRP is $995 but invoice is $2,695??
?>
It means Milous has been working too hard and needs some sleep.

Invoice prices aren't posted yet, But you already figured that out. ;)

Any information on when order banks open in Australia for the 2014 srt8 and when we could expect to see first arrivals on our shores. I believe Australia is Jeeps biggest market, outside of the US. I am being patient, but cannot wait to get ball rolling and place my order.

If I order a V8, Does the QDrive2 automatically come with it? If I am right, on the '13 model, if you ordered the V8, the QD2 came with it ( of course for the additional charge). So how about for the '14 model? Anyone know ? Bueller ? Anyone ??

No, except on the Summit. It shows all the info in post #1 of this thread.

On some of the last spy pics of the limited they were spotted with the radar bulb on front and HID lights. Assuming what was said about some of those being sold to customers someday it makes me feel a little better that they will make the ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY GROUP and LUX available at some point. No CRD badge on those pics either, unless it was left off for a reason. Makes me feel a little better it's coming at some point anyway...

Okidokey, If you are correct, I don't have to order QD2 if I order a V8. I went on the Jeep site, and built a '13 model, ordered a V8, and the site told me that I HAD to order QD2 if I ordered a V8. Wonder why that was the case for the 13's and not the case for the '14's. Kinda weird, don't ya think?

Could be it just isn't showing it yet. Time will tell.

It does show that V8 is required for QDII

My limited priced out with all the options is 43,340, overland is 45,790. 2,450 for upgraded wood, leather dash, door uppers, console and painted body trim. I'd gladly take a limited and miss these upgrades. Prior model years, the tricked limited's were nearly identical to the overlands in price I believe. I'd get the overland again if I had to, but I'll wait around to see if I can save the 2,500 I guess. Overall the prices aren't to bad considering all the upgrades they put into them. Still excited to get one, even though I can't swing the CRD.

Don't forget the QL, heated/tele steering wheel, black honeycomb grille and shiney tow hooks.

But those are things that most of can live without. QLD is just another thing that can go wrong that I don't care about. Heated steering wheel...please, that is why they make gloves. The honeycomb grill, I'd upgrade it to chrome honeycomb.. Yes there are some nice upgrades but not worth it for me.

You are exactly right. I would never use power folding mirrors, besides they are very flexible if you bump something.. When you originally planned on ordering a Limited with the Luxury Group I should have followed suit.

#440 ·
You aren't the only only SRT8, many others did the same thing I did and ordered an Overland. If it becauses available, my order will be changed back to the Limited with Lux II and Towing group IV

There's a reason Jeep has so many models/trim levels of what is basically the same vehicle. It's not that one is better than the other, rather that each one is best for somebody.

I guess they could just have a Grand Cherokee with a list of options, which would include a list of must haves and can't haves, but having trim levels makes it easier for everybody.

From a dollar and cents point of view, the lower the level the better the value. That just means that more of the dollars spent went into the car and less into profits. As you go to higher levels you add more to the profit side. It's the private sector's form of wealth distribution.;) Way back in the caveman days, a stripped Plymouth Duster was the best value in the market. That didn't make it the best car.

So, as long as everbody gets most of what they want without selling the first born, it's a good day. And everybody has something to dream about until next time.

Thank's for the other ones I was missing. Some are included my my OR2 and lux package, but I was missing the black honeycomb grille and shiney tow hooks, interior rear lighting and folding mirrors. Could do without them as well, but its good to have an accurate list. Might have to sit in one to see if its really worth it.

Speaking of milous, the wk2jeeps site seems to be down. Not sure if anyone said anything yet. Poor guy needs a content management system for all this info, has to be hell keeping up that old stuff in regular HTML files. Hosting might have been revoked because of the bandwidth usage too from the launch. Ha.
