Thanks. But does for example, the 6.4 srt8 produce 470hp even though it went from a 5speed to a 8speed? Shouldn't there be a difference?

No difference. Transmission has nothing to do with horsepower. But will shift smoother and improve mpg.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee spy pictures

The engines won't gain HP because of the transmission, but the new transmission can allow more efficient usage of the power which can result in quicker acceleration and less fuel consumption. On a seperate note, Jeep could make changes to the 2014 engine to get higher horse power and torque numbers out of it, but the transmission wouldn't have anything to do with that.

They know what they're doing so I'm not concerned. The new for US diesel engine also has a very good/excellent track record!

Are you saying the new 8 speed tranny that Jeep is using has not been tested well yet? I thought the Charger was doing well with the 8 speed tranny.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee spy pictures

..the 8speed tranny is kind of the new ZF standard tranny for upper class cars used in BMWs, VW touaregs, the new Land Rover and probably some others as well
So its a real mass product showing no problems in whatever car its been used up to now. I wouldnt worry at all....

Good luck

Achim

No, that's not what I'm saying. I am saying that it has been tested and has a very good track record to this point.

Re: 2014 Grand Cherokee spy pictures

8H45 for Pentastars is current, 8H70 for larger engines is new to Chrysler.

Also the trans does not directly affect hp/torque but the 5 speed Pentastar is tuned for a very broad torque band (90% of max from 1600 to 6400 rpm). With the 8 speed (really 7 with dual overdrives since will normally start in 2nd) the gaps between gears is reduced so it "could" be retuned for a narrower but higher torque band which could result in more HP.

OTOH to make use of the double ovrdrive is is either going to have to make good torque doun to 1250 rpm (55 in 8th with 3.09 & 30.6" tires) or will need a new rear gear (1400 @ 55 with 3.45 gear & 1500 with 3.73 like the Wrangler).

Either way the 4.31:1 1st should be able to go straight up the side of a wall (17 mph at 3,000 rpm with 3.73) - no need for dual range but TOADs will still need neutral.

Front LEDs will be like the 300, according to what was said at the dealer show in Vegas today.

The shifter shown in the 2014 SRT spy pics thread is the new Jeep shifter now.
