Re: 2014 heated seats question

This works the same as in my 2013 300S.

Re: 2014 heated seats question

The auto feature is nice and we use it all the time with the remote start. The issue is its on full blast and you only need it for a little bit and we frequently adjust it during driving. Will not be the case with the new system.

We test drove a 2013 Flex with MFT and heated seats were on the home screen and very easily accessed (wasn't the case when we drove the edge 2 years ago so software update seemed to have changed it.)

Re: 2014 heated seats question

This seems like a step back in safety. A physical switch you can glance at and then feel for it. These touchpad things will require taking your eyes off the road for longer periods.

Didn't you see the stop sign? No, I was turning the heated seat off.

Re: 2014 heated seats question

I think it stinks that they are embedded in the screen, its driving me crazy. They should have added them under the fan control on the push button line. The buttons should be left, right seat heat control and steering heat as a separate button. Having to hit the screen all the time is distracting. Engineers are supposed to be making these cars easier to drive without distraction not make it worse. I liked the 2011 Overland set up better. The 2014 seats are also uncomfortably hotter then the 2011 so you have to shut them off after ten minutes while your driving.

Re: 2014 heated seats question

Well, at least the Jeep has buttons. The damn Tesla S requires you to go through the touch screen for everything. From the radio, HVAC, Headlights to the Sunroof.

Re: 2014 heated seats question

I would believe that if there were enough complaints, Jeep could move the button. I mean, it's all software and would only require an update.

Re: 2014 heated seats question

I don't know why most manufacturer's are moving everything to the touch screen nowadays completely neglecting safety.
I like the features on the '14 Uconnect vs the '11-13 except for removing these safe and simple to press buttons - heated seats and steering wheel.
Albeit my these buttons were awkwardly placed in my '10 Maxima, I know where to press without taking my eyes of the road needing to tap, tap, tap on the touch screen. Hopefully, with enough safety complaints, they can rewire this back to hard buttons - as it appears there is space available where they use to be prior to the MY14!

Once you have a touch screen, you save money for each switch you eliminate. And at least some, maybe all, of these things are now controlled wirelessly. That saves on wire harnesses. It's why the manual states that if thing aren't working properly you should shut off wireless devices, like cell phones. Just like flying.

Re: 2014 heated seats question

I've gotten used to using the touchscreen so that I don't need to do more than glance at it when turning things on/off. I almost never look at it for the stereo since I can do it all from the wheel.

Also, for the heated seats, you don't have to go through Climate. You can just tap Controls and the heated seat screen is right there.

Don't get me wrong, I like the touch screens. It's just that these heating controls are buried 3 menus deep. Since I don't have a MY14 yet(perhaps this summer), can't you get to this heated seats/steering wheel menu via the steering wheel controls? (with my '10 Maxima, I can access all menus either by voice command or the steering wheel buttons on top of the touch screen menu which I found I rarely touch)

Until I got my Jeep, I thought the controls for the seats were buried, but they are not. Touch the third button from the left at the bottom of the screen. It's the one with the picture of the seats. The screen then shows two images of seats on the right, and two seats and a steering wheel on the left. The top seat buttons are for heat, the bottom for venilation. They cycle through high, low, off. The steering wheel button is for heat, but I don't recall if it is high/low/off or just on/off.

It is a lot easier than I was led to believe.

Heat and AC can be controlled by redundant buttons or voice control.
