2014 jeep grand cherokee transmission

I have a new 2014 JGC with a 5.7 Hemi. I've noticed that there seems to be excessive downshifting especially when driving vehicle under 40mph. It almost seems as though the transmission is searching for a lower gear. Has anyone else had similar issues?

Haven't had that problem with mine. I did have to re-learn throttle input with the 8-spd though.

What do you mean by "re-learn" the throttle input?

Input to the throttle is quickly translated by the ECU's. Small inputs, at times, resulted in a larger outcome than I expected. "Smooth is fast and fast is smooth" as some folks like to say and applies to the throttle here!

Also, are you driving in the default ECO mode?? ECO mode will force the transmission to hold higher gears longer. If you are in sport mode, than it will stick to 6th, rarely making 7th gear.

Overall, I have yet to experience the transmission "hunting" for a gear. Simply, this is the best automatic I've ever driven!!

There has been several flashes for tranny software to resolve the issue. There is a TSB out there. Look at WK2Jeeps.com - 2011-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I've only experienced that in sport mode, where "that's a feature and not a bug" ...

Also, with 8 speeds and eco mode, the transmission will try to stay in the highest gear for fuel economy, but those speeds are right on the threshold of those taller ratios. Throttle input at those speeds can cause the transmission to vary which gear it is in. The update is for V6 only right?

These only apply to the v6, not the Hemi.

I'm experiencing the same issue with my 14 V6 overland when downshifting. Has the dealer acknowledge this problem for any one?

Yes, there is a TSB as mentioned about for the transmission in the V6s - WK2Jeeps.com - 2011-2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, although the OP has a V8.

Might be worth giving the battery a 20 minute disconnect and a few hundred miles to learn your driving style. Just a thought.

Re: 2014 jeep grand cherokee transmission

U guys are referring to this ? http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_2100713c.pdf

My dealer flashed the tranny back in Oct. as I can recall. Not sure if I should ask them to flash again. After the learning period, the tranny now shifts smoothly. Maybe flashing the transfer case is worth another visit to the dealership?
