Bill.... you need your own TV show.... Jacko can co-host. The name of the show can be "matter of fact" and the audience gets to spend a certain amount of time figure out which one of you is more full of $h1t.

Bopping around town I'm doing about 17-18MPG in the '14 - so I am handily beating the '14 EPA estimates in the real world. I don't know what reality is for V6 mileage.

The 5.7L in my '14 seems to do about 15-20% better overall mileage-wise than my '07 5.7L. I don't know whether I'd expect the V6 to do a lot better, and as you've found the V8 just feels better (at least until a firmware update comes out).

My advice: get the 5.7L and don't look back. All you'll see is dust anyway
Thank you for the feedback - those mpg numbers for the hemi are amazing, especially when I compare them to what we used to get from the v8 in our 2002 Durango (saw from your sig you have had a couple of those).

Just amazing how much engine tech has improved over the last decade.

You have the v8. Most v8 people appear to be happy while most v6 people are not happy with some aspect of the shifting. I use the word "most" loosely so no flame mail please.

Thumbs up Re: 2014 JGC Transmission Survey

My wife's 2014 Limited (V-6) has none of the problems listed with the transmission... seems to be mostly as smooth as any transmission I have seen and driven. I drove it yesterday for a wound trip of ~110 miles and "pushed" it a bit (now that it has a couple of thousand on the odometer). The engine and transmission were totally smooth. although if in top gear @ ~1100 RPM, I can (as expected) feel the transmission start to "hunt" for a better gear, as it should do. Just me being picky... not a problem, though.

The rest of the miles on the vehicle are mostly hers, because if I drive it very much, I may just want to get one (probably an Overland) for myself.

The 5.7L does very well on highway only mpg I have been shocked at some of these numbers I have been getting. Will snap a picture on next long highway trip.

Re: 2014 JGC Transmission Survey

Very glad I found this forum and this thread in particular! I'm shopping for a 2014 JGC, and hadn't considered the V8, but will definitely need to test drive one now. I expect to put 9,000 miles on it annually, and at $3.75 for regular, fuel costs should only be $333 more per year vs the V6.

I came across a review LINK that confirms the transmission differences.

"V6 models use the low torque variety made by Chrysler while V8 and diesel models use a heavy-duty 8HP70 made in a ZF factory. If you’re up to date on Euro inbreeding, you know this is the same transmission used by BMW, Audi, Jaguar, Land Rover and Rolls Royce. "
