I doubt that they are going to fix this . My 2011 v6 did almost the same thing when coming to a stop. The power train control module got updated once and that made it slightly better but the clunks where still there. I hope I'm wrong believe me. If the 5spd and 8spd both clunked for me when coming to a stop maybe that means their is something up with the transfer case.

I get that clunk at different times when coming to a stop or taking off from a stop or rolling stop. I tried to replicate it for my should we say service advisor here on the Jeep garage but I couldn't lol. The clunk is very faint I don't know if I'm hearing it or feeling it or both. It seems to me like it comes from the rear end. I'm very happy and impressed with my 2014 grand cherokee overland hemi build month was February bought her in May 2500 miles on her only a few minor problems non transmission related so far. I get to experience the smoothness and quickness of the 8 speed transmission a lot living in San Francisco it did take some time and a reset to get echo mode use to my driving habits and me use to echo mode but now even echo mode is smooth in the city. Maybe the clunk is something totally different from your clunk but I have to really be paying attention to hear or feel it I do notice it more in sport mode though but I would expect that. Maybe what im feeling is normal who knows?

Re: 2014 JGC Transmission Survey

Hi all. I'm back and forth between very happy and disappointed. I have several issues I've mentioned here before. The radio makes a popping sound (so loud, when it first happened, I thought a rock hit the windshield). The trans bogs down. It's way better, but is hasn't completely stopped. And when I'm cruising at highway speeds (70+ mph) the front end is shimmying. Jeez, what's next? On the plus side, it's really a gorgeous vehicle. While washing it last night I was thinking wow this SUV is just a beauty. And it really runs...I always drive in sport mode, and it's very responsive. For a V6 to be dragging around this much weight, it really takes off. One day I had to stomp it to make my exit (a car kept speeding up to keep me from getting over) and I swear, it sounded like it was growling. So, once again I have an appt with the svc dept. I hope they don't call and cancel this one. I might have to pitch a hissy.

I think I just figured out Jeep's UConnect strategy.

.... make it so bad, every thing else in the vehicle seems Michelin 3 star by
comparison.

Isn't the current V8/Diesel 8 speed the original ZF transmission as used on big Bimmers, etc. With Mopar controllers I would guess... but still the ZF original.

And isn't the V6 version a Mopar transmission built with ZF designs?

... where I wonder if that is the difference or if the Hemi just matches the 8 speed so nicely once you get it broken in?

So, how would you feel about blowing 50K+ on a 2014 JGC and liking the results?

Re: 2014 JGC Transmission Survey

Hi Willx:
I am not sure how to reply to the survey. I have the V6 and like the 8 speed transmission but I don't think all of the shift maps are properly optimized. I waited a couple years knowing the 8 speed was coming before buying my GC. I am inclined to select the 2nd option in your poll, but I don't bother to turn ECO off as both of the other modes delay the higher gear up shifts too long or should I say until too fast a speed. One confusing thing is shift points for the lower gears seem better when I first start from cold, maybe a different shift map until warmup. After warmup and with some stop and go, lower gear shifts happen to early giving a slightly harsher shift and the feeling of sluggishness that wouldn't be there if the upshift was delayed a little longer. If I press harder on the accelerator, there is better delay and a smoother shift, but doing this may be more acceleration than I want for the driving condition/traffic.
I also find that downshifts to lower gears happen too quickly when I want to slow down gradually. Sometimes they are pretty abrupt like downshifting a manual transmission. In fact, it is probably abrupt enough to be an issue if there was poor traction. A faster braking seems very smooth. I really don't think there is anything mechanically wrong with the transmission. No harsh clunks, noises, etc. I love it on the highway and essentially all situations other than gradual slowdowns below 25 mph, and warmed up starts with relatively light acceleration. I plan to bring this up when I go to the dealer. I have about 2700 miles on my Summit and it would be the 1st visit. I need to go for radio/uconnect upgrades as mine was built late March. I am stating things the best way I know how and I am not trying to be negative, just trying to convey the info as best as I can in hopes that there is just some software tweaks that would make me really love this transmission. Overall, I am very happy with my Summit. So many things about it are outstanding! Sorry that the post turned out to be so long.

This is the same exact problem I have noticed as well. I have an appointment at the dealer next week for this and a few other issues. I will report back after the appointment.

Re: 2014 JGC Transmission Survey

1100 miles on the V8 now and getting smoother by the day. Still turn off Eco mode unless I am on the highway. But even Eco mode is getting smoother now. All in all its better than it was when I bought it.

If you are using forums this way to purchase a vehicle you won't ever buy one. I am willing to throw a lot more that 40k at the Jeep because I now have numerous friends who are very happy with them and I have driven many myself.

Just because it is on the internet doesn't mean it is true
