Re: 2014 Motor Trend SUVOTY

Here is a link to the video on YouTube, I just finished watching it:

My girlfriend has a 2013 Impreza Sport which obviously isnt the Forester there is a lot of commonality and there is no where near the versatility of the GC - the Jeep can just do so much more, real off roading, towing, an interior that doesnt look like its out of 2001, etc. Not to mention I hate hate hate the CVT, you floor it and just revs but its not going anywhere... Don't get me wrong, I like the Subaru just a little surprised it won.

Motor Trend usually does a lot of ink noting that their [WhateverVehicle]OfTheYear award is for significant changes, possibly new trends, but almost never ever for the best vehicle in a class.

A search of past winners of MotorTrend [wv]OTY is worth at least a few giggles.

CUV you mean. Sedan based jeep. Might want to also check out the Jensen Interceptor, the spiritual grandaddy of the SRT.

And the MotorTrend article notes that the Evoque was a past winner... and most of the competition was all CUVs not SUVs. Which, to meet their "fitness of purpose" criteria considering how few ever leave soft dirt roads, moves the CUVs up well past the few SUVs left on the market.

And to be honest, the jeeps have never been fuel sippers--nor frankly made for the typical tourist. Attempts to change this haven't exactly been met with open arms by current owners--possibly even exceeding the screaming and yelling from 911 types any time Porsche changes anything. As long as they keep selling enough trail capable Jeeps to support their design and manufacture, hopefully they will keep making them as opposed to going the way of the Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder, etc.

Besides, the same magazine rated a Summit over a Cayenne, etc. etc. etc.

Subaru Forester > WK2 Diesel Summit.

If you live in bizarro world.

I wouldn't touch a Forester with a ten foot pole lol.

I think you forgot about the 1941 Overland Wiley Jeep. That my friend, was the indisputable first SUV.

Re: 2014 Motor Trend SUVOTY

I just watched the whole video. lol Kim (the farmer guy on the left side with the baseball cap) is such a tool. The only category the Subaru won was value. It is ugly as heck, has an econobox interior and has virtually zero off-road capability versus the Jeep. The Jeep, especially the Diesel/SRT destroys these other vehicles.

It seems like they glossed over all of the JGC's top features. Diesel, interior, one of the best if not the best infotainment systems, air suspension, massive features/equipment list were all barely mentioned or not mentioned at all. Yet they talked about the MDX Infotainment system (how bad it is) for 5 minutes straight. I think if off-roading was given even a small category for points (which it really wasn't) the Jeep would have easily won. Just seems like they glossed over the JGC because it has won before.

The forester is a decent suv, I actually test drove one, but it's no
jeep...
I wouldn't even classify the Sabaru as an suv, maybe a crossover. But that's it.

They made zero reference to any of that in both the article and video as far as I am aware of. Not everyone has those issues either.

Re: 2014 Motor Trend SUVOTY

Everyone has those in Colorado. The interior is so bland to me. I'm an interior guy and the GC is much nicer inside.
