Now I'm seriously considering getting one of these. Half the reviews seem to be happy owners who had damage prevented by using this thing.

If I remember correctly total repair bill for my Jeep was around $620 since no repainting was necessary (lower piece on the Limited bumper is unpainted). The guy who hit me was very nice during the whole ordeal, and paid the body shop personally so the accident wouldn't go on his record.

Good luck with the repair.
Problem with the nice guy is that the repair might go on YOUR record in CarFax.

I'd worry about those park sense sensors, they may have been jarred, busted, etc. where they could fail soon.

That's an excellent idea. Wonder what sort of laws would prevent mounting a pike or battle axe blade back there for drivers who insist on driving like dogs greeting each other.

No insurance company got involved. He told me to take my Jeep anywhere I wish...and for the shop to send him the bill. I know he paid because the shop let me drive off with my Jeep when completed.

That was also one of the things I asked the body shop to check...to this day all is good.

yup, this is exactly the one I have except in stainless steel vs black. It is also handy as a step when you need to reach the roof rack. My bumper would have gotten more hit-and-run damage last week than the $100 this thing cost, just factor in a hitch pin lock so no one can steal it.

Re: 2014 Overland... Rear-ended after 6 days of ownership

I usually forget about it and keep my ball hitch in the receiver (on my old WJ that doesn't have sensors or a rear camera). Yes, it helps keep me on the winning end if someone bumps into me. However, as happened last week, it's kinda rough on the front license plate of the car in the parking spot behind me, when I'm squeezing into a tight parallel parking spot and forget that hitch is sticking out back there.

Looks like your hitch receiver took the brunt of the impact, so sorry you had to experience the damage so soon after purchase.

I have used Go Rhino step hitches for over 2 years now - in fact just ordered the D360PS hitch step that is stainless steel.

Just getting ready to put it on this afternoon:

Re: 2014 Overland... Rear-ended after 6 days of ownership

I have done a diminished value claim before. My 2006 Miata was tagged on the passenger front fender by a hit and run driver. The car was fixed and car fax (scam) was updated accordingly.

I took my car to a dealer and went through the paces of getting a trade in bid. They pulled up the car fax and gave me a trade in offer. I asked for the offer in writing and how much they deduct for the previous repaired damage ($2000). I sent the info into State Farm and they sent me a check for $2000.

I bought this car on 1/10/14 and was rear-ended on 1/16/14. The Civic didn't fare so well. It lost its radiator and the right front quarter panel separated from the body. The hood and headlights were decimated. Here are some pictures of the gruesome scene.
That really sucks! The pain isn't so bad if you had it for years, but less than a week is painful. I always sport a tri-ball back there. It has actually saved me a couple times. If they hit me hard enough, at least they're getting some serious metal driven into their front end.
