Re: 2014 Overland... Rear-ended after 6 days of ownership

So I finally called their insurance company to work this out and they are a low-rent, and extremely rude, company. I believe it's called Robert Moreno Insurance. I'll probably just be calling Allstate and having them repair my car and I'll just pay the deductible.

As far as diminished value, it is something I'm worried about. I know the actual real diminished value is non-existent, but when it comes time to sell, it may turn some buyers away. Or the trade-in might be compromised. I suppose that's just something I'll have to live with. I will try to claim a DV since it's a brand new car but I hope to keep it for at least 6-7 years so there may not be much I can do. At that point, it might not even make a big difference.

6-7 years it's not really going to make a difference.

Call your insurance and let them handle it. They will deal with recovering from her insurance company.

100% agree. That's why you pay them.

Want to avoid diminished value and possible insurance problems? Pay it all yourself. It looks like just the bumper was damaged.

You pay for insurance.. Use it!!! Unless the damage is 200-300 dollars. You don't know what's damaged beyond that plastic bumper cover.

Re: 2014 Overland... Rear-ended after 6 days of ownership

It's a tough vehicle guys...designed to tow 7k pounds from that hitch.

"You pay for insurance, use it" there are consequences for using insurance. Rates can go up, you'll have a CLUE record if you go to switch companies even if you aren't at fault. Your concerns over Carfax are another issue.

This is why I have $1,000 deductibles.

Robert Moreno Insurance, seems to be a broker as opposed to being an insurance company.

I do believe you avoid problems by using the company you pay to insure you, you may want to see if the policy this person has is with one of the major carriers.

1000 deductibles are nice if you want to keep your premiums low...if you're not a body and fender person, diagnosing your own damages and simply buffing it or ignoring what really could be wrong is dangerous to the car and your pockets which why you pay insurance premiums.

You never know. I was saying the other day how many small new insurance companies are out there nowadays that aren't brokers...scary...

Call your company and let them deal with these people...just understand that means you will have a CLUE claim, so if you go to change insurance companies in the next few years it might affect what they can do for you. Thats not the end of the world, but it is what it is.

I am the most anal person about my cars that you will meet...but even in my opinion freaking out because of a little fender bender talking about "hidden damages" and whatever gets to be a little bit dramatic. Cars get run into...thats why they have bumpers. Bumpers are easily repaired and replaced by design for this very reason. The Jeep has a massive trailer hitch on the back of it and thats what bore the brunt of this accident...as it did in my identical accident. "Dangerous to the car"? Its a thing...

Yes you pay for insurance in case you need it, but insurance companies are not your friend. Anything you say, ask, do or let them know can and will be used against you. Thats why a lot of times little stuff like this you are far better off just dealing with it yourself than involving your insurance company because a lot of times involving them creates more problems and costs for you than it solves.

IMHO insurance is for big things, not little things.

Freaking out isn't the issue which will vary from person to person. If your damage is 200-300 dollars and your deductible isn't close to that then weigh it as that's been covered in previous posts. Whatever the damage is it should be inspected carefully because of all the components that could've been damaged so that minor scuff could be 2300 worth of damage. If that doesn't bother some that's cool,we're all free to fix or not fix damages caused by others.

Yeah the preliminary estimate said about $1k worth of damage. It is unlikely there is more damage although most places that looked said it's certainly possible. I have absolutely no tickets or accidents on record for over 7 years so I'm just gonna go ahead and file a claim. I've been told repeatedly by my agent that filing a claim with my insurance (Allstate) will not increase my premiums. It's still possible the other insurance (Robert Moreno) can take care of this in which case I'll just cancel the Allstate claim.

I am still a tiny bit skeptical about what my agent said, but what can I do. I'm probably gonna stay with them for a while and I'm gonna keep this car at least 6-7 years. The only hope I have for DImished value is that since there was no police report, there won't be a carfax entry for it.

While we may pay more for top tiered insurance companies in the long run it winds up working out better and with less headaches then the smaller companies selling policies out of a Winnebago.
