The perfect JGC for me would be the Overland with the at least the option to order the H/K sound system (should be standard to begin with) and the addition of the chrome grille found on the Summit.
Amen to that ! It was such a disappointment when I found out that the summit wont have some offroad specs and overland wont get the sound system . What I did was ordered the overland with the promise that after some time ill upgrade the sound to smth even better than the summit
don't care about adaptive headlights at all.

Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

Not that I'm complaining but I wonder why Jeep gives the Summit 4X4 V8 Quadra Drive standard, since its obvious they don't really intend for it to go off road?

Other than the lack of underbody protective plates, the Summit is as capable on off-road vehicle as the Overland. The plates can be dealer installed if you really need them.

But, unless you're going to be doing extensive rock climbing they don't serve much. For regular rough trail riding the Summit will be better than just about any luxury vehicle except (maybe) a Range Rover. The Overland too, of course, but why give up the extra Summit goodies if you can afford them?

Let's see ... what's the extra on Summit? Upgraded audio and adaptive headlights plus a bucket worth of chrome. Not a big deal for me ... The only thing that I wish I had an option to get is headlights. Don't like the chrome on Summit though ... Also I like Indigo interior which you can only get it on Overland. Still I wish I was able to get Saddle.

On the other hand, I think you should be able to spec out Overland to Summit by adding headlights and better audio just like you can do with Limited or even Laredo to almost bring it up 1 trim level up.

You can't order the upgraded Summit sound system or headlights with washers in the Overland.

I dot think he was saying you can spec it out, just that he wishes you could spec it.

If so, I misunderstood ...

If they allowed that, the Summit wouldn't be quite as special.

Overland used to be "special" but still you could load Limited and almost have Overland. It comes down to customization. Some people don't want QL but want all the other features on Overland and the can pick and chose. Financial wise not sure if it made sense but you could and I think you should.

Also I would be willing to pay for adaptive headlights but I cannot get them on Overland so they lost the sale. Odd... I'm willing to buy, you don't want to sell. Same thing with Summit, you should be able to get ORAII package. Why not?

Isn't customer always right? Not according to Chrysler it seems. To me it came down to: do I like ORAII and Indigo better vs Adaptive headlights? Wish I could get all 3 but I cannot either on Summit or Overland which I think is very odd.

They can push you into higher bracket if you want some options but you should not have mutually exclusive combinations. It doesn't work for salesman, it doesn't work for buyer.

Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

What you're asking for is a complete a-la-carte offering. If Jeep was a speciality car maker you could have that. But they are a mass production car maker (more than 1,200 JGCs a day) and so they create a limited number of "packages" that they can sell that meet the needs of most people.

In fact, other than the range of paint and interior colours, Jeep seems to offer more model variations and more options within those variations than any other car maker I know. (The Summit is the exception – it's loaded on the luxury side, but still highly off-road capable).

Not to be a Jeep apologist (my Summit is currently stuck in "Inspection"...grrrr), but I think they offer more options for buyers than most anyone else.

Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

It's possible they could add to the Overland as time goes by. They've done it before. Of course, they've decontented too. 2015 Overland might have more of what you want, maybe?...
