Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

I don't thnk there's *any* difference in the head units. It's all in the speaker system which easily upgradable.

That's what I was thinking. I wonder if someone could confirm that, like Marlon/Chevy/Milous/Scott?

Like someone else said, you will listen to the radio every day. The suede is a nice addition as well and the summit just feels more refined. But then again I will not ever be off-roading so that probably had something to do with it.
Welcome to JG hawkflyer!

If I wasn't interested in off-roading, the decision would be a no brainer. I do plan on hitting the trails though, so ORAII is a necessity.

Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

The head units are all the same. If its an RA4, its an RA4, whether its in a Limited, Overland, or a Summit. Same thing goes for the RA# and so on etc... The differences are the Speakers, Amount of Speakers, Subwoofers, and Amplifiers.

Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

For the people who are planning on offroading in the summit, what wheels/tires are you planning on getting?

Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

My only regret about getting the Overland is that if i had waited a bit, I'd probably see some people with the Summit that already have done some modding that would improve the looks such as de-chroming, new rims, etc. I really wanted the brown interior and HK system, but I just can't get over how much of the aggressiveness they took away from the looks on the Summit

yeah! agree with you sometimes it looks more like a lexus than a jeep! well maybe that's a tad too much but I agree with you! it just doesn't "look" like it could handle what an overland could!

I believe that was the intention...the Summit is focused on a different market. Folks like me that do pretty much zero off-road, spend a lot of time on the highway and want "luxury", but also want and like the JGC platform's capabilities that have few, if any, peers on the "domestic" name market.

Re: 2014 Overland vs. Summit

for me the big things are tires, rims, adaptive cruise and stereo.
Overland you can get the 18" so you can get aftermarket offroad tires. Not sure if you can get a 20" in an off road tire. Adaptive cruise on summit is sweet did not seet that on overland. And the stereo on the summit better. now is all that worth the difference in price and can some of it be added and still come out ahead. If I get the summit its in the price and will be part of the vehicle during resale. If I add this to the overland then it doesnt help on resale so its just freebies for the next owner. If the summit came with 18" wheels i would probably go that route

For those of you worried about the quality of the Overland stereo, go try it out before you condemn it (and mess with the bass, mid, and treble because the factory preset isn't great. Also, turn on Surround Sound, it really improves the sound quality). The system in the Overland is better than the upgraded Bose system in my Infiniti or the upgraded Mark Levingston system in my Lexus. For me, the HK stereo was not worth losing the look of the Overland, which I like a lot better than the look of the Summit (money was not an issue, by the way, and likely won't be for many potential Overland/Summit buyers).

raven730:

You can get Adaptive Cruise Control on the Overland as part of the Advanced Technology Group. As far as offroad tires go, the only option in stock size (265/55R20) is the Nitto Terra Grappler. There are a few more options in the 275/55R20 size, but still not many.

Hahaha good point. I actually changed my username from "OverlandSummit" (because I was deciding between the Overland and Summit at the time) when I bought my Overland. What I said above, however, is what I found when exploring both the Overland and the Summit, and ultimately I found the Overland to be more to my liking. I have no doubt that the HK system is better than the system in the Overland. However, the system in the Overland is very good, and, in my opinion, it is not worth buying the Summit solely for the sound system (which I might have done had the Overland system not been as good as it is).
