2014 performance - 0-60 ???

We are probably about a month away from first reviews of 2014 GC. Wondering how much more can we expect to get from V6 and V8 due to 8 speed. I believe 2013 Dodge Ram V6 4x2 (about ~4500 pounds) is doing 0-60 in about 7.5 sec. Seems like it is better than GC with V8.

What's your predictions?

Here is 2013 RAM INFO?
DRIVETRAIN: 3.6-liter, 305-hp, 269-lb-ft V6; RWD, eight-speed automatic
CURB WEIGHT: 4,572 lb
0-60 MPH: 7.6 sec (mfr)

Thanks,
Paul

Re: 2014 performance - 0-60 ???

I know in the SRT discussions they said the 0-60 will be a bit slower due to an extra shift... but it will be made up in the quarter mile and in areas that are more likely to be used on the street and the track instead of just at stop lights.

All the new ones are ridiculously heavy and I don't think very many people really care about 0-60. They just want their seats warm when its cold and cool when its hot!

Re: 2014 performance - 0-60 ???

I'm going to guess at least a .5 second acceleration improvement for the V6. My official guess will be .7 seconds.

For perspective, C&D tested the 2011 Charger w/ 5 speed at 7.2 sec for 0-60 and 7.7 sec for 5-60. The 2012 Charger w/ 8 speed got 6.7 sec and 7.0 sec respectively, for a .5-.7 sec improvement.

Re: 2014 performance - 0-60 ???

I would guess the V6 would do 0-60 somewhere aroud 7.3-7.7 seconds. This is what the ML350 and VW Touareg V6 do with similarly sized engines and 7/8 speed transmissions. The Hemi will probably be a half second quicker to 60 as it is currently.

I don't know where the idea that the SRT will be slower than the current one came from. During the reveal at the Detroit auto show the gentleman talking about the vehicle said acceleration is better on the 2014, he also said 50-75 times are 1 sec quicker which is quite significant.

Re: 2014 performance - 0-60 ???

Take a look at this video:

Seems like with the current setup around 50-60 this gets really sloooooow ... I am hoping that 8 speed will help a lot.

You're also going to be adding at least 1 more gear change to the run.

I would expect 0-60 to be about the same, and quarter mile times to drop slightly. Not that it makes sense for anyone to be running a quarter mile in a non S GC anyways, but some people base a lot of self esteem off that sort of stuff I guess.

Re: 2014 performance - 0-60 ???

It will be quicker 0-60. When they went to the 8 speed in the 300 it took close to 2 seconds off the 0-60. It could have exta shifts but the shifts are much quicker in the 8 speed. I would think we will know in a month or so what the numbers are and I would fully expect them to be much better. Some on these boards seem to be jealous of the new 8 speed so you will probably continue to hear them tear it down.

Re: 2014 performance - 0-60 ???

Gear ratios play a huge role in the 0-60.

Re: 2014 performance - 0-60 ???

I just did a run with my 5.7 2012 Grand Cherokee and got 6.7 using my Diablosport Trinity. in Sport mode in 22 degree weather. A heck of a lot better than the 7.4 I've heard thrown around.

the Hemi is definitely faster than 7.4. The problem is that once it shifts to 2nd gear, it falls on it's face.

And for the 2011-2013 V6 the 1st gear is 3.59; for the 2014 V6 it's 4.714. (Full list/comparison here: 2014 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes)

I'm pretty sure all other things being equal, the higher the number the faster the acceleration.

Just tuned it with my DiabloSport Trinity. It doesn't anymore Big difference is shift firmness also. It kicks down two gears right away when you are going 50 to 70. It used to bog down at times before.
