Re: 2014 Reliability Question

We have the GC Laredo plus (or so...) with NAVI/Winter package/ etc. and it was one of the earlier build. The only 2 issues we had was the engine light on last year on the 24.12.2013. Drove to the dealer and also they had only emergency service with only one mechanic on side, they switched a module in no time. Everything was fine after. 2 issue was right in the beginning because our white Laredo had some bad painting spots but it was covert right away. Asked the dealer if we could get it painted after this winter ( who needs a nice paint job with all the sand and gravel on Alberta's roads) and he was ok with that. My wife drives the GC and she loves it. When I am "allowed" to drive our Laredo, I personal enjoy every ride...

Re: 2014 Reliability Question

Thanks to everyone that provided some input. I will be ordering a 2014 Limited JGC 4x4 with the 8.4AN on 3/8. I am hopeful that the majority of issues have been corrected at this point and am really looking forward to my new ride.

Although slightly unrelated, would anyone advise me to wait for the 2015 or will it basically be the same vehicle with maybe a new option/color difference + price increase?

Re: 2014 Reliability Question

From what I know there will few changes in 15 and mine is considered a 14 1/2 since it is the diesel and didn't start coming out until late SEP.

Have you looked at the group buys in DC and Houston? Might be some leverage negotiating....

About 1k on the odo.

No issues to report.

14 overland, Hemi. Every option minus blu ray rear DVD (couldn't find one anywhere)
January 2014 build date.

Talk you into ordering? Here goes-

Where else can you find an SUV fully loaded with a v8 for under 50k?

Quadralift and the new transmission are magnificent.

The new interior/nav/instrument cluster is awesome as well.

This jeep is a joy to drive.

Good luck!

I came from Toyota with a tacoma and have zero regrets!!! I purchased a summit for a family vehicle and this thing has been flawless so far with 6000 km's. The fit and finish is top notch and the interior is second to none. Just pick the engine you think fits your life best and the 8 speed tranny will blow your mind! My experience with people who like to tell everybody how bad something is usually won't be happy with anything in their lives. Yes people have issues but this vehicle is far more reliable than not!

There will always be refinements. Hopefully we are past the major ones.

At some point a lot of companies may elect to do some cost saving changes too

And there might be more changes that might present new problems. Like they might do a tire change and that tire becomes a problem or ends up being a better tire.

It's hard to say. But I think 2015 will be just continuous refinements. But there might be a "Step" here and there like there was this past mid-year that upgrades several components. And that probably would occur on the switch to 2015 models. Then you might want that to settle out a little bit too.

Re: 2014 Reliability Question

I see people frequently mentioning early or late build dates. Does this only apply for the 2014s? I'm considering a 2011-2013 GJC and I was wondering if should be looking for:

a) a specific year
b) an early or late build date within that year

It only gets worse as you move inside with cheap plastics apparantly modeled after my kids transformers. The JGC has now way outclassed Toyo on several fronts. I only worry about reliability.
Well I traded in my 2005 V8 Limited Toyota 4Runner for a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland.

My 4Runner was also super solid and reliable. In fact, there was not one mechanical or electrical issue requiring a trip to the dealership while I owned it. The only issue was related to the exhaust & the CATs. I really wanted another 4Runner but like you, I felt that the new 5th Gen 4Runner was a serious downgrade from the 4th Gen ones. Heck, they don't even offer a V8 anymore!

My 2012 WK2 has had multiple issues. The Blind Spot Detection system stopped working several times. It was finally fixed after 3 trips to the dealership. There was also a problem with the something lose under the front passenger seat. And my brakes have had issues with squealing almost from the start that still haven't been fully addressed.

All in all, it hasn't been a picnic with this Jeep. I'm not a super happy owner but I'm still not quite ready to throw in the towel yet either. Most of the issues have been addressed but I worry about future problems (excessive under body rust & burnt headlight housings due to poor design to name a few). I worry about the long term reliability of this vehicle and will try & get rid of it sooner rather then later. But I still might purchase another WK2 if I feel the issues have been properly addressed (2015 model).

Re: 2014 Reliability Question

Nissan bought back my Pathfinder due to transmission issues so I am a little gun shy on trusting cars. Took delivery of a Summit last week and put 1500 miles on it since. Drove through ice, snow, rain storm. So far no issues. Will put another 2000 miles on it in the next few weeks. Looking forward to it.

Re: 2014 Reliability Question

The 2014's may have a lower resale value than normal due to the problems earlier in the model year. Other than that, not much reason to wait for a '15. Personally I want my next vehicle to last 15-20 years (I'd drive it for half of those years and then hand it off to DW for her grocery runs), so resale value is not an issue.

Gotcha. I'm not too worried on resale value as I typically keep vehicles for a while. I have pretty much decided that the Jeep is the vehicle I want as I think no other SUV looks as good or has the technology I am looking for. In the long run, if I order and it has issues......it just gives me a reason to trade in early on a newer model year In all seriousness though, it appears the large problems are mostly worked out so I am not too worried.
