I have this same color Jeep, I custom ordered painted body side moldings, and they arrived and the paint on them was a perfect match, I also ordered some touch up paint to have on hand from another company, and it to was a perfect match....I'm no paint and body expert, but I have done some auto painting....It can get difficult matching up some older paints and colors where a car has had years of exposure to sun light and weather, resulting in some fading etc. Thats where knowledge and expertise of the painters or paint supply people play a big role, now they can even use computers to even get that perfect.

This just sounds like your body shop screwed up, which is too bad, I think I would ask my insurance company to see if they would allow another company to re do the paint work on your Jeep.....Good Luck, that sucks

If you have the same color, can you confirm that your vehicle does not have the iridescent flake like they repainted our vehicles with (both sets of pictures in this thread). Thanks, Mandy

Re: 2014 Repainted and flake doesn't match!!

Mandy,
Having a Granite Crystal Metallic 2014 GC SRT, and looking at your photos, I can confirm that my paint, does not have any colored metallic flakes in it, my limited opinion is that your body shop just plain used the wrong colored paint period....
The paint they used, from your photos, reminds me of some paints I've seen on other makes of cars, not Chrysler products, but of course I have not seen every color that Chrysler has used world wide....bottom line is that you are correct, someone screwed up, and someone can make it right with a good repaint in the correct color, good luck, too bad your having to deal with this, and people at a body shop who apparently think your too picky because you want the job done right

Re: 2014 Repainted and flake doesn't match!!

The dealer says that a PPG rep has been onsite for 6 days and they still can't match the paint. The mix they used over the weekend was worse than the version I saw.

Re: 2014 Repainted and flake doesn't match!!

Mandy, that is so hard to believe, as I said I'm no paint or body expert... But it's pretty unbelievable that A PPG rep can't figure it out. Like I mentioned before, I ordered some body side moldings on line, provided them only with my factory paint code, no vin #, and within a week I had a set of perfectly painted and matching side moldings, exact color match.... Hum? And I also order some factory touch up paint from another web site, using again only the paint code from my Jeep, and yes once again I received a bottle of paint that is a perfect match.... I would try contacting a local auto body and automotive paint supply company... Talk with them and see what they can tell you or match up for you....I bet they can come up with an exact match.... I'm doubtful your repair shop spent any 6 days with PPG.....Try calling PPG yourself, and see what they have to say...... This is just too weird, Perhaps I'm just not a very trusting guy these days....

Any update on what happened? Did they match the paint color?

Mine is still at the dealership (going on 6 weeks). I called jeep customer care on Friday. They are supposed to be contacting them tomorrow.

Re: 2014 Repainted and flake doesn't match!!

I finally got my jeep back today. They did get a pretty good match on the paint, but they painted it 4 times. I have new paint all the way to front doors and the damage was on the back end. They did have to custom mix paint, so I do think there is an issue with the formula in the system. It's hard to get a picture without a reflection in it, but here are a couple of the new paint without the disco ball effect. Yes, it's been 7 weeks of frustration but I think it looks pretty good now. Hopefully they will be able to help Adam get his corrected too.

Re: 2014 Repainted and flake doesn't match!!

Glad you were able to get this resolved! I can't stand it when body shops screw up the tiniest things. My mother didn't seem to have a problem when the body shop placed her badges in the wrong spot but I couldn't stand it. They are still in the wrong spot 10 years later. LOL

When my Liberty got T-Boned about two years ago, the body shop left me with a nice clear coat drip. I asked the manager if the tech was blind. I didn't leave there until they took care of it. They also screwed up the paint texture, but I just let that slide. It's not like I'm ever going to sell it. But there's no way I'm going back there!

And Scott, that piece is called a "lightbar" and we don't paint it. It comes prepainted and preassembled, and we just slap it on and connect the wires inside the tailgate. Yes I have noticed small differences myself in the Jeeps on the line! Thankfully, the Durango doesn't have that problem as it's lightbar isn't color matched, but part of the taillamp itself!

I HATE that! Nothing makes it more obvious that your car has been hit in the rear than emblems that aren't put back in the right spot.
