Yea, I am just saying that jeep(and everyone) would be better served if they put the cd player here in the first place.

I make it work though. The center console with CD player still holds my Taurus .45.
Yup, I agree. Seems like jeep got it bass-ackwards.

To each his own, and I respect your thoughts on this, but totally disagree for my own use. The little shelf above the ports has enough room to fit sd cards that would hold enough music to fill the hatch with cds. We're in the 21st century, and cd players are just about obsolete. I was a little disappointed that the 8.4AN didn't have an accessible hard drive, but not any more. I've created a half dozen sd cards with folders I can stick in the reader and hit shuffle and drive for days without hearing the same song twice, and it's all music I choose. The sound quality is better than anything else available except maybe HD radio, of which we have two stations. I suggest folks invest in a few sd cards, start ripping your music and give this a try. The quality really is quite good if you use a high enough bit rate. The 21st century ain't such a bad place!

I completely agree, I just wish my wife did... I'm still not sure why she wanted the CD player, buy hey, it's her Jeep...

If you rip those songs onto a SD card and show her how to navigate the music using the head unit she'll smile I bet. Sometimes it just takes seeing it first hand for people to step from their comfort level.

Honestly, I have a DVD/CD/HDD in my Maxima and in the 3 years I've leased it, I rarely used the disc players-in fact, used it only to rip the songs into the HDD. Discs storage is (soon) going away as a standard in vehicles. With the advent of mobile phone-audio players, they are cost savings for manufacturers not to install. With a cheap MP3 player costing @$50 to plug into aug or a 32GB SD card/USB stick at much less, there is no need.

But I do agree as to why the USB, AUX, SD slots couldn't be put elsewhere to take up much less space is beyond me. But good to know that there is a shelf above to hide my iPhone when I get my truck

Re: 2014 SD/USB area is HUGE...room for CD player too?

I suppose it would have been a better use of space if it was all in the center armrest console, but I'm really glad the ports aren't in the dash around the radio like they used to be. Easy to break a long usb thumbdrive sticking out of the dash.

I am def not arguing for the technology or utility of CD's. Im saying if jeep is gonna put a CD player in the '14 jeep put it with the USB/SD/AUX...plenty of room in there for everything.
