Why in the world wouldn't jeep put the optional CD/DVD player in this giant cave? It's huge!

I know ... it swallows your hand up to your elbow ... well almost. It is quite big, where you realize that there is this extra shelf in there above SD/USB slot.

On the other hand I didn't needed CD player so I actually like the fact that they didn't use the space. I have usable space. Otherwise they would probably put some dummy face plate if you didn't order CD player.

Any way you can post a photo of this space? I just ordered my 2104 limited without the CD player for two reasons, First is that I don't need one and second I wanted the space in the center armrest/console for storage. Is there another storage space above the SD/USB area. If so , do you think this will be blocked off with a faceplate if you deleted the CD player from order?

Once I get it back shortly. I will take a picture of the area for you.

I would have preferred that the SD/USB/AUX stuff be put in the center console and the CD player in the lower dash cubby....

I make it work though. The center console with CD player still holds my Taurus .45. :D

I noticed that it was quite recessed compared to the impression you get from pictures but I did not see any space above it.

SNO and I have a Limited trim with LUX pkgs. Maybe that space is actually being used by other equipment. I will check later myself. Nice to know of a potentially hidden "cave".

There actually is a little shelf above the USB area the goes back some. You would have to reall rip stuff apart to put a CD player in there.

Me, either; awesome little tip -- thanks! (When you're seated in the car, you're too high to even notice it ... but lean down, and there it is!)

Cool. Now my wife has another place to leave her junk.

Honestly, I have a DVD/CD/HDD in my Maxima and in the 3 years I've leased it, I rarely used the disc players-in fact, used it only to rip the songs into the HDD. Discs storage is (soon) going away as a standard in vehicles. With the advent of mobile phone-audio players, they are cost savings for manufacturers not to install. With a cheap MP3 player costing @$50 to plug into aug or a 32GB SD card/USB stick at much less, there is no need.

But I do agree as to why the USB, AUX, SD slots couldn't be put elsewhere to take up much less space is beyond me. But good to know that there is a shelf above to hide my iPhone when I get my truck

I suppose it would have been a better use of space if it was all in the center armrest console, but I'm really glad the ports aren't in the dash around the radio like they used to be. Easy to break a long usb thumbdrive sticking out of the dash.

It's a great vehicle, and we're all having fun with the learning curve. Personally, I've enjoyed the little surprises!

I had another salesman (not mine) tell me I would need to pay $600 to activate the Nav in my Overland. We went back and forth and finally agreed to disagree.

Funny seeing the responses in this thread - I didn't notice the USB-area storage space until a couple days ago when something I threw in that area disappeared. I took a closer look to make sure I wasn't crazy and sure as shit it had made its way up into the storage shelf above.

I love storage!

side note: the center console space I could *not* do without. It's huge. It's amazing. And I love it. If I had jumped the gun and got an Overland with a CD player as I almost did (it meant taking delivery about a week earlier than I did) I would be incredibly pissed at myself right now. Coming from over a decade of smaller cars with minimal storage, this space is incredible. Sooooo glad I waited for what I really wanted.

The Buick Enclave I traded in for my Overland had tons of storage, and little nooks and crannies all over the place. Before I took delivery of my Overland I was a bit concerned about storage space because of concerns I read about on this forum. I've got to tell you, I'm just incredibly pleased with all the great storage spots I've found. Now I'm looking for more crap to keep in my truck!

The area around spare tire under the cargo floor is HUGE ... You don't realize how big it is until you keep stuffing stuff in there. It just takes and takes and takes ...

What I don't like is cargo area size. I wish it was a little bit bigger. Hatch is cut on an angle so big square boxes will not fit. Also it sucks that the flipper glass is gone... with bikes mounted on the hitch rack it is huge pain to get to my stuff. I don't know what Jeep was thinking. You don't use it very often but when you have to it is a lifesaver.

Hey, guys! I have GC Limited 2014. However, no CD/DVD player. I was under impression, that it would be there.. I think it would be cool to play movies once in a while. Anyway, does anyone can suggest me what to do? I mean, should I get a DVD player and install it there somewhere? Thank you in advance!

If you had the CD player, it would be in the center console between the seats. This WILL NOT play DVDs or videos at all.
