2014 summit another bent rim

just got back from the dealer and the 2nd bent 20' summit rim within 1 year. thing that bothers me is I am the only one that drives the jeep and I have not done anything that should cause that, same with the first one. part price from dealer is $642 plus mount and balance. I talked them down some and used the $150 coupon but still end up around $440. justforjeeps had them for 470 + shipping but tired of messing with it and just let the dealer do it. I have tried getting rims straightened before and doesn't work out very well still end up coming back with a hop in them. have also tried remanufactureds which also had small hops in them. as sensitive a setup as this is you cant have any hops or you will end up with shaking so unfortunately you often find your way back to new ones. so decided I am done footing the bills on these soft as butter rims.
Called Ziegler and bought the $0 deductible mopar tire and rim policy for 7 yr/unlimited miles for $310. It gives you $1500 for bent rims each year, something I should have just tacked on when buying the maxcare. I consider that a bargain given how fragile these rims seem to be. I have had sports sadans with a lot lower profile tires that have never bent. maybe its all the extra weight in this SUV.

oh well just a recommendation that $310 may save you some money if you keep the jeep for the long haul and have the soft as butter 20s

Re: 2014 summit another bent rim

Ouch. Do you think it is the relatively low profile tires and pot holes?

Thing is I haven't slammed any pot holes I am very careful since the first one. The first one I did hit a pot hole but it really wasn't that hard of a hit I have hit sport sedans with lower profile tires than these and harder and not bent them. only thing I can think is heavy 5300 lbs SUV plus soft fragile rims = extremely easily bent. anyway beware

That $310 for 7 years seems like deal.

What else would it cover?

I bought this from Zeigler when I bought my MaxCare Lifetime service contract for my new at the time, 2014 Cherokee. All you have to do is hit one of Michigan's famous pot holes and the Mopar Tire and Wheel service contract pretty much pays for itself. Seems like a no brainer to me. I am surprised that it is not advertised more heavily especially with the harsh winters we have had the last couple of years. I have seen a couple of advertisements for the GM, Tire and Wheel service contract on TV but none for other makes.

wish I would have bought it when I bought my jeep would have saved me over a thousand for 2 rims over the last year. in 30 years of driving I have never replaced a single rim up until this past year. I agree it does seem like a no brainer for $310 now that I have learned how fragile these 20" rims are.
The other plus side to it is no need to light foot around anymore worrying about the tiniest bumps in the road if they bend they bend you can bend $1500 worth per year, covers busted tires also.

Im surprised they don't advertise it more also you cant buy it though the online transaction at Ziegler like maxcare you have to call ziegler or email them. Ziegler definitely the best price on it my dealer wanted $580 for it and I got it from Ziegler for $310.

Although I did talk with Bob Cline before I made my purchase of the Lifetime MaxCare and Mopar Tire and Wheel service contract from Ziegler's I did purchase both online. Things must have changed if you can't buy the Mopar Tire and Wheel service contract online any more. Bob did tell me how to override the numbers online and gave me discounted numbers to put in for MaxCare but the Mopar Tire and Wheel numbers stayed the same. I saved over $800 on MaxCare from what my st/d ealer wanted. I didn't even bother pricing the Mopar Tire and Wheel service contract at my dealer when he was that far off on MaxCare.

*******Forgot to mention I placed the purchase of both Mopar service contracts on my Jeep credit card. By doing that I received enough reward points to extend my SiriusXM service contract for everything they offer for almost two years at no cost to me. Of course I left it on the Jeep card just long enough to collect the reward points and then paid it off to avoid paying any interest.

I spoke to Bob also it was quick and easy with him, he wanted my information emailed to him and they did it all with in an hour very good people to work with. You can click the tire wheel policy on line now but all it does is let you read about it. maybe you have to be buying both at the same time to get the option to come up online? I bought maxcare from my dealer for $2100 2 years ago which was only slightly under Ziegler at the time considering Ziegler is no tax. that was only after beating the dealer down about a grand lol they really pray on people not doing homework and going in there clueless.

Re: 2014 summit another bent rim

This is why i got the 18" wheels with my Overland. I think that there isn't enough sidewall to protect a 20" wheel from potholes in the roads. Here in N/VA the bad weather has badly damaged the roads. There are potholes everywhere. Your cost of tire/wheel insurance is a great deal, especially for the length of the warranty.
