What's the best way to check the build dat (short of asking the dealer)? Is there a way to check it by VIN?

The month and year are stamped on the side of the drivers door. If you want the exact day of the month probably need the build sheet or maybe the dealer can run the vin for you. Check out the window sticker features for Stop Go or look for AUG 13 or later on the drivers door as the build.

It seems like these threads keep popping up every day. Did chrysler not do any QA with these vehicles? I'm afraid to drive mine now lol.

Re: 2014 Summit Lemon

Leaving the city yesterday and sitting in 2 hours of traffic, I was stuck next to a new white limited. I started the conversation with, "so, how you like the 14 and any problems with the 8.1"? His response was, and I quote, "don't get me efing started".

Apparently, he has backup camera issues, blue tooth issues and getting reception on the xm stations. This guy was efing livid.

So, the long and short of it is, I told him about the blog and we could very well have a new brother on here shortly.

I am thinking that a (relative) few slipped through the cracks and came out of manufacturing and QC unnoticed. My build date (on the one I pick up tomorrow) is June, 2013 and my wife's Limited was built in March, 2013. No problems with hers yet, except for a very rare phone service/contact dealer message that stalls the clock until the vehicle is restarted. She spoke with the dealer this morning and he said the next software update will fix that; hers is apparently not on the list for radio replacement.

Any brand/model of anything can have its bugs and flaws; what counts is how the problem is resolved.

I have a 14 summit built in Feb'13 and I haven't had a single problem so far... my navigation system froze once with my wife driving so I can't really say what happened, it start working again when she turn off/on the car, my outsite temperature also got stuck for a few minutes once. those are the only two minor issues I had in 4 months since I bought.

I'm also terrified with the horros stories I see here, but I think I'm one of the lucky ones, and I hope to keep that way! :-)

Re: 2014 Summit Lemon

early April build and had no issues whatsoever (except for Vehicle Phone requires services) issues but seems like this is very common and actually ongoing problem. Truck has been solid!

Bought my 14 Limited Mar2013. Backup cam went after about a month with the truck. 45 days later the part arrived at the dealership. No issues besides that.

Early build (Jan) Summit, dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree yesterday, anti lock, brakes, suspension, no speed-o etc. Check the fuses and 50% were loose. All that remains now is the check engine light.. Taking it to the dealer today.

I had the exact same issue this morning- May 14 overland build with 6200 miles. I had already pushed all the fuses in a few weeks ago based on forum info. At the dealer now. Lets be sure to compare experiences...

Re: 2014 Summit Lemon

A couple of quickies from a foreigner

- You can get crap service at BMW too. Well in Australia anyway.
- For me, stop-start is an annoyance... we turn it off immediately on starting our 5 Series. I just find the rocking of the car cranking is a PITA, and half the time it shuts down just as you're about to take off again. Enviro gimmick in my opinion.

Cheers,
Steve

I forgot to say... I empathise with your problems mate. When the b!tch goes bad, she's gotta go.

My Overland has been at the dealer since last wednesday (8/14) for this issue. They couldn't replicate it but luckily I supplied pictures that I took while it was happening. Also my quadralift was lowering me at speeds under 15 and raising me back up as I sped up, it was really weird.

They think it was the ABS module and have ordered a new one and supposedly fixed it. I'm supposed to get the jeep back today. 9 days later...
