3.0 Diesel from Truck Trend

The Jeep was shod in 20x8-inch wheels, wrapped in Goodyear Fortera rubber, and reached 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. It finished the quarter mile in 16.0 seconds at 83.3 mph. Braking from 60 mph took 122 feet

We test drove a V-6 today finally and were able to get a good look at the Overland in Brilliant Black, White, and Granite. Seems we've decided on black exterior but still a touch undecided on the interior - we both like the black seats and trim and dash and the glossy wood on the black but both wish the headliner was a lighter (maybe light gray would be nice?) so it didn't seem so dark inside overall. The beige is better than the beige in the MY13 but it is very light. We both didn't care for the flat look of the wood but probably liked the beige interior more overall all things considered. Ideally I wish it didn't have the dark piping on the seats as well. Leaning toward beige right now.

As far as the test drive I was impressed. I liked the shifting better with Eco mode off but would probably keep it on anyhow. The rain sensing wipers seemed to work well. Overall likely still sold on the diesel but waiting is getting tough! We will probably wait and take a look at Billet Silver as well but she wishes it were lighter silver and thinks it looks a touch purple in the right (wrong?) light.

(If it were up to me it'd be Black/Black no questions asked)

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

Just finished a "shakedown" drive of my 2014 Overland for a 1600 mile business trip. I happened to one of those rare customers who ordered 1/31 and took delivery four weeks later on 2/28. I must have just missed the "great catastrophe" and sympathize for those who are still waiting.

This is a fantastic vehicle!. The 8 speed transmission makes all the difference with the V6 ... the car does not feel underpowered like the MY 11 - 13. Overall the car performance, features and comfort exceeds my expectations. My wife has 2012 Overland and she is has Jeep envy now.

For reference those who might have experience similar problems the only issues so far:

- Easy exit seat option stopped working. Somehow the seat could not figure out where it was so it could not move. Dealer reset and it has not happened again.

- Slight rattle in front passenger seat at low speed where it rubs against center console. Will need to get it adjusted.

- Driver's door lock does not always lock on first push of handle lock. Sometimes I have to move the fob out of my pocket. I think the car believes the fob is still inside so this will need adjustment.

- Front end alignment is off a couple of degrees to the right and pulls left. Have to get adjusted.

- Navigation "froze" in fixed position one time but kept giving verbal directions. Once I turned off it reset and the problem never happened again.

- Quadra Lift got into a loop of trying to raise itself when I changed the terrain setting at highway speed. Again once I shut down and restarted, the system reset with no further problem.

- Radio presets sometimes don't reappear until I select the seat memory a few times.

For those who have it in their budget the advance tech group it is worth every penny. Advance Cruise control makes highway driving pleasant again .... the car practically drives itself. Forward collision warning may have saved me from a collision when traffic suddenly stopped in front and the brake warning came. The rear cross warning kept me from backing into a passing car that suddenly moved behind me when I thought it was going the other direction.

Good Luck with your decision.

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

I just test drove both the 3.6 & 5.7 yesterday...well sort of. Unfortunately the salesman dictated my route stating safety reasons and took me to a residential area. Needless to say I could not very well get the true feel for either vehicle. I do not have an issue with the residential part as there are some open roads, just the residential part that he took me to. There were stoplights on every block so I did not get either vehicle over 45mph and that was only one short stretch of road.
I did notice that the V6 felt more agile probably do to the fact it is lighter in weight. I think the heavier V8 made the car feel more solid, maybe even higher quality. Can anyone relate?

I think the only way to compare the 6 and 8 are to drive them without being told which is which. Of course there are differences, but the human brain will tend to enforce our preconceived notions. Except for mothers in law, most people don't think a car handles differently or feels more solid because of extra weight.

Even a longer test drive on vehicles that aren't broken in at all doesn't give a true picture. Aside from serious towing, either engine will get the job done.

I owned a 2001 BMW 540i and drove many 528 & 530i's and can tell you there was a big difference in handling and feel. I wasn't even looking for that when I took the JGC's for a drive, just something I noticed as soon as I pulled out in the V6. Who knows...maybe my mind was playing tricks on me.

Were you driving vehicles with the same suspension and wheel size?

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

I might be the exception because I drove both the 3.6 and the 5.7 on back-to-back nights and felt a pretty tangible difference (esp in terms of "raw" acceleration). The 5.7 felt significantly stronger to me. Now I am not intimating that the 3.6 is not (even more than) adequate because it truly is, but I went with the Hemi primarily because I was spooked by the head issues in the 6 (in the Wranglers). In fact, if it weren't for the previous head issues, I probably would have gotten the 3.6 because I will never tow. One thing I will say. I LOVE the sound of the 5.7, even at idle.
