Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

But 15.6 for the 3.6L?? WTF was he doing to get that, burnouts all day? I can't believe that it is rated 17/24 and he only was averaging that, doesn't sound right.

Yeah, they had to be doing something seriously wrong to average 15.6 with the Pentastar. It sounds like that's the one they took off road, then used the diesel for the highway testing.

That's why you can't always take magazine reviews at manufacturer events as gospel.

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

Awesome.
I noticed the large difference between the averages posted for the gas vs diesel in one of the reviews. There's something wrong with that - likely they used the diesel for highway driving and the V6 gas for off-road.

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

Oh man... These reviews are making me want th diesel even more... After my initial test drive of a v6 I was hoping to convince myself that I didn't NEED the CRD.

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

Thats pretty messed up and irresponsible to quote the v6 offroading MPG versus the diesel highway MPG...pretty ridiculous and it sounds like they were possibly being coerced to misconstrue the results.

Whats the US MPG the diesel gets in europe right now since its the same engine?

The autospies review had MPG numbers as well.

"So here is what I saw in two days of testing (I did not baby them nor overwork them. I wanted to see what the average driver can expect in the real world)... 3.6 6 Cyl. 17-18 city, 22-23 HWY. 3.0 eco-Diesel 22 city, 28-30 HWY. SRT 13 city, 17 HWY.

You can get more or less depending on how you drive but those numbers are a good real life baseline as you research your next car."

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

Interesting picture in the autospies review of the trip computer screen in a diesel. Shows 23 miles driven in 24 minutes and avg of 34 mpg. Not too shabby, even if it was a steady
60 mph with a tailwind.

Nice I didn't notice that...just realized they have 25 pages of pictures from the event as well.

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

I had a 2013 Wrangler Rubicon 10A on order the week the order banks opened. A special early limited run with black seats.. affiliate pricing.

As the story goes, the very next day, the 2014 Grand Cherokee press photos were released and therefore I canceled my order.

This is the reason why ...

Out with the Box, in with a true dual purpose vehicle you can take just about anywhere, without breaking the bank. A blend of affordable refinement and utility.

I can get my 83 year old mother into a Grand Cherokee, take her to Napa Rose for an annual get together with her high school friends. Its more respectable for business during the week, and I can take it offroad on weekends to get to my favorite fishing spot.

Simply awesome.

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

23.5 miles driven in 24 minutes works out...to about 60 mph, likely on cruise control. Interesting - 34.0 mpg. Granted it is probably flat terrain, cruise control enabled right after they hit 60 mph and then reset the trip meter. But interesting nevertheless.

Re: 2014 Test Drive Reviews

I ran some quick calculations.
If you intend to save money by buying a diesel, that argument alone will not suffice in justifying the increased price of the diesel variant.

Spreadsheet accounts for 7500 miles driven in the city; 5000 miles driven on the highway every year; a 0.25 $/gal / year average increase in the price of fuel and a 0.5 $ difference in the price of diesel over gas. Breaking even (not accounting maintenance and Diesel Exhaust Fluid) happens after 125,000 miles or some 10 years. I ran 2 models, one with 30 mpg highway and one with 34 mpg highway.

If you make city miles 5000 and highway miles 7500 and keep the highway fuel economy at 34 mpg, you just break even a year earlier (9 years, 110,000 miles)
