But the Jeep drives noticeably differently in Sport Mode than in non-Eco Mode. Personally, while I've only tried Sport Mode once or twice for a short period of time, I like the way the Jeep drives in regular D mode with Eco off best -- for me, it's a good balance.

I've been meaning to test Sport Mode more extensively though so maybe I'll play with it more today.

+1, I really hope they make this as an option in the EVIC or UConnect radio in a future software update. Even if they hide it in something like Advanced > Super Advanced > Don't Come In Here, it's Dangerous > Okay We Warned You > Remember Last Eco Mode Setting... I'd be cool with that.

Actually, yesterday I happened to come across someone on a forum saying that UConnect has an "Engineer Menu". I wonder if maybe the setting can be changed in there?

I've tried to run it in Eco Mode long enough to see how much gas it really saves, but I always end up turning it off after a couple minutes. Maybe I should give it some more time, but I just tend to prefer the responsiveness of the vehicle with Eco off.

Cool if you find anything on that menu or another way to do it let us know!

Re: 2014 V6 Eco Mode - How to default to off?!?

What am I missing here? The user's manual states "Press the "eco" switch in the center stack of the instrument panel and a green light will indicate the ECO mode is engaged."

Is the default "on" or "off"?

The default is "on" and there doesn't appear to be a way to change the default (likely due to government fuel economy rules as pointed out by others)

Re: 2014 V6 Eco Mode - How to default to off?!?

I agree, having to push the eco off button every time you start the car is incredibly annoying. Its like BMW's engine deactivation system, have to shut that off every time too, one of the big things about the 5 series that turned me off.

I'd buy the trailer tow group just to get rid of eco mode.

I believe the '14 Limited V6 I test drove had both the trailer tow group and the eco button on the dash.

As has been mentioned before on threads in this forum, those of us who live in first world countries are lucky to be plagued by such "incredibly annoying" problems.

Re: 2014 V6 Eco Mode - How to default to off?!?

Simple solution... buy the CRD. Full-time "ECO" mode with no button

All kidding aside, its a huge PITA to have to deactivate this sh!t every time you start the car. The way Lexus does it is the best, if you put it in Eco mode, it stays in Eco mode when you restart. But if you put it in Normal or Sport/SportS+ modes it defaults to normal upon restart.

"Normal" should always be the default. If someone wants to detune the vehicle for better economy, I'm all for there being a mode they can activate, but to make people activate "normal" every time is a PITA.

If people don't complain, things like this are going to keep happening. I know you're in the warm fuzzy "Jeep can do no wrong phase" but I promise you, long about 6 months in of pushing it 4 times a day its going to get annoying.

More than likely most people will leave it in eco mode except for those times they are actually thinking about driving. With a new car you pay attention to every nuance. After a couple of months you'll be too busy texting, checking out the girls in their summer clothes, and thinking about what's for lunch to care about a little more pep.
