The bad thing about adding these things is usually they help the engine breathe better at higher rpms at the expense of low end torque. I added a cold air intake to my fusion (I know different vehicle...) 4 cylinder and it killed my low end grunt. I almost wonder about replacing the air filter with something high flow... It is the same filter as the hemi so it can already flow more than the pentastar can take in, so how much will you really gain?
I do agree that it could use another 40-60 lbs of torque, heck I would take another 10 lbs of torque, anything helps.

It is odd that people complain a vehicle with just under 300 HP is "eh". The last Jeep we had in the family, a 2002 Limited with the 4.7 V* made 235 HP & 295 Ft-lbs of torque. The current V-6 makes 290 HP, but only 260 Ft-lbs of torque.

Me? I'd love the Hemi in the likely Overland model we order this fall. But, the fuel mileage penalty is just too great. I've driven BMWs for 15+ years & could never get any performance out of them, not due to me or the cars, but the overabundance of revenue driven speed traps. A diesel would be nice, but for some 4K more than the 6 it would take my grandkids to see the savings. Not worth it, IMO.

I wasn't necessarily referring to this post when stating "it's adequate" and all I am trying to do is get the best feel I can from real owners since there are no performance numbers out there.

Re: 2014 V6 owners - how do you like it?

How's this: I love the way this V6 pushes my JGC down the highway, I'm glad I bought it, and I'm not missing the V8 at all. Dollar for dollar, it's the best V6 I've owned since I started buying vehicles with a V6 engine. I took a 150 mile trip today on hilly, winding county roads in Western New York farmland, and it was truly a magnificent afternoon of driving. And that ain't no bs!

The WJ's with V8 also weighed at least a thousand pounds less. That makes a huge difference in performance.

We did not order the V6, because we live at 8500FT, where non-boosted engines produce approximately 24% less horsepower. Would have considered the V6 if we lived at sea level--or even way down at Denver.

I remember my 2000 WJ Limited V8 weighed about 4,000 lbs. My current Summit V8 weighs in at 5,086 lbs. But at least its about 40 lbs. lighter than my previous 2012 Overland V8. But the 5,086 lbs. sure feels nice and solid compared to the old 2000 WJ.

WJ vs WK2...11 years later the Grand Cherokee has gotten bigger and beefier...there is already a considerable size difference between a WJ vs WK.

Re: 2014 V6 owners - how do you like it?

Wall the base '12 Laredo was 4475 lbs, it is all the options that other models get, over 850 pounds difference between the heaviest and the lightest.

A second factor is that the 4.7 torque peaked at 3200 rpm and was down to about 257 at 4800 and a Limited 4x4 was 4200 lbs. OTOH a 3.6 has over 234 lb-ft of torque from 2000 to 6400 rpm and is making more torque & hp than a 4.7 from 4800 to 6400.

So in comparison to the 2004 WJ with 4.7 the 2012 is longer, wider, heavier, and can average 20 mpg in mixed driving and even with a five speed has more passing power due to the DOHC with VVi&e. With the '14 8-speed there would be no comparison.

ps looking at the '04 WJ spec it is looks like it had that same double second gear as the "6 speed" with the '11-'13 Hemi.
