Re: 2014 V6 versus 2013 V8

I think we can boil it down to this
V6 - unacceptable acceleration. 16 second 1/4 times are almost dangerous in situations where you have to move your vehicle.
V8 - adequate acceleration. 15 second 1/4 times are standard for mid to large size SUVs. Its not fast by any stretch of the imagination but moves when needed.
SRT-8 - decent acceleration. Similar to a automatic convertible V8 mustang. 13 second 1/4 times are quick for most vehicles. By no means is it fast but quick enough to put a smile on your face.

Re: 2014 V6 versus 2013 V8

I don't agree the V6 is unacceptable! My butt dyno says it feels very much like my 2001 Limited with a 4.7 only smoother and not near as much sturm und drang from under the hood.... agreed not quite as much front end tip in with the throttle but more like a steady smooth acceleration that winds up faster.... You've obviously never driven a 2014 V6 or have totally unreasonable expectations for a 5k lb SUV....

Sheesh

P.S. and FWIW my wife's Z4 will smoke them both!

Heh heh. Wonder how many folks will take this seriously.

Pretty soon the Hemi will be long gone. The topic then will be any regrets on buying the supercharged V6 vs. The turbo 4cyl in your GC? What about the plugin only model? This is the same way guys were when the carburetor was being replaced. You can't beat technology. Rewind things 10 years and the V6 would have been magical. Its funny how skewed things become when you change what's considered fast. Remember the mighty 5.9?
Here's something to chew on. Back in the day a 5.0 mustang with auto trans was as quick as the new V6 GC. A Grand National was only 2/10 quicker than the new Hemi. Not the "modified" one that Buick had the magazines use, but one from the showroom floor. I had friends that had both. Instead of being satisfied, we get greedy when more is given to us. I believe the GC with the V6 is quicker than just about every American car made from 1975 till 1985.
