Its funny how skewed things become when you change what's considered fast. Remember the mighty 5.9?
Here's something to chew on. Back in the day a 5.0 mustang with auto trans was as quick as the new V6 GC. A Grand National was only 2/10 quicker than the new Hemi. Not the "modified" one that Buick had the magazines use, but one from the showroom floor. I had friends that had both. Instead of being satisfied, we get greedy when more is given to us. I believe the GC with the V6 is quicker than just about every American car made from 1975 till 1985.
Maybe. Maybe not.
Dunno how much money it would take to re-engineer it for direct injection for a bit better mileage and performance as some competition does. The twin ignition should allow more exotic fuel technology particularly if matched with two direct injectors per cylinder rather than one.

I doubt the real Hemi will ever return, so we are stuck with baby brother.

Re: 2014 V6 versus 2013 V8

Not only did the 2011 v8 lay down a 0-60 in 7.3 but the curb weight was 5252lbs

2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs. 2010 Land Rover LR4 - Comparison - Motor Trend

The 2014 v6 laid down a 0-60 in 7.7 with a lower curb weight of 4903lbs.

2014 Motor Trend SUV of the Year Contenders - Motor Trend

The 2011 v8 was 0.4 seconds faster with a weight disadvantage of 349lbs. These are FACTS and both from Motor Trend. The v6 and the 8speed is a great combo but it is slower.

You're completely missing the point. We're not talking about 0-60 times, we're talking about how the vehicles feel when driving them around town...not what would win in a drag race.

Re: 2014 V6 versus 2013 V8

I think we are all in agreement that the '14 models with 8 speed are a much needed and welcome change over the previous trannys. In '11-'13, neither were impressive (except for SRT of course). Now, both the V6 and V8 are quick and competitive. It is somewhat sad the a little turbo Forester is still faster than the Hemi. . Oh well, how many of those do you see around? At least the Pentastar can now hang with (n/a) Explorers.

Yawn. This is getting old. The V6 will always have a weight advantage. That's why it handles and brakes better as well. Give it up already and trade in for a '14. Either that or buy some Enzyte.

Re: 2014 V6 versus 2013 V8

After driving the 2014 V6, I can honestly say that it feels remarkably similar to the pre-2014 V8 models. By the seat of my pants only, I'd say that they perform the same or at least close enough that it would required instrumented testing to tell the difference. Both engines feel pretty much effortless when pushing the heavy WK2 around. The 8-speed transmission is fantastic.

Re: 2014 V6 versus 2013 V8

They all feel unimpressive to me. As for daily driving the only two scenarios that matter are climbing a hill without a downshift and passing power from 70-90 as that is the range where I make most of my passes. I have no complaints with the performance of my 11' Hemi and actually prefer not to constantly hear the tranny shift.

When I bought my 11' I owned a 4.7HO and the wife and I did a pull from a dead stop and my 4.7 owned my 5.7. It raped out of the hole and continued to pull. Additionally in snow the older jeeps with QD but no traction control are vastly superior.

The new transmission downshifts effortlessly. You would barely notice it. If you drove a manual then I could understand that logic.

Throughout this entire thread you have repeatedly said the '14 v6 was as fast or as quick when compared to the '11-13 v8 when it isn't. 0-60 the v8 wins, figure 8 the v8 wins (handling), and in the 1/4 mile v8 wins. The HD brakes under perform big time, not sure why. All these are per Motor Trend. You were proved wrong on the interwebs. It happens. The v6 and 8 speed, like I have said, is a great motor/transmission combo and it bridges the gap really well. Hopefully you get a chance to enjoy what the jeeps are truly made for by going offroad. I think we can all agree that off road is more enjoyable (except maybe the SRT folks)
