I personally don't have a problem with it...we've owned three hybrid vehicles (including my own previous ride) so ESS is nothing new to us. I was just insuring that someone didn't get the impression that "pushing the button" actually disabled the feature beyond "that ride".

Look at it as being a memory exercise. It'll help keep your mind sharp.

This is not the same as how hybrids behave at all.

Hybrids stay on or stay off as needed depending on conditions.

This just blindly shuts off every time you come to a full stop.

Shutoff feels more instantly than even that. The second the vehicle is at full stop it stops. It's really fast. I try to get it in Park before it shuts off and I can't make it.

If it waited 4-5 seconds I think that would defeat a lot of it's savings and make it pointless.

Also, at a stop sign (or Right Turn on Red), if I slow down to a crawl it won't shut off. It starts very quick and starts on brake release not on stepping on the gas.

One case that drives me batty though is when pulling into a parking spot, it shuts off when I stop. But then when I put it park it turns back on again. Then I shut it off with the key. I may try hitting the disable just as I approach a parking spot.

Curious what it will do in the Winter when car is still warming the cabin.

The issue is that coming to a crawl can get you pulled over for not coming to a complete stop. Just because that is rarely enforced doesn't make it any less frustrating when it is.

That's how I drive any way so it's not very frustrating to me.
If it was, I'd turn it off.

Sorta, but with my Highlander Hybrid Limited (and our two "Prii"), it was easy to feel the engine shut off at stops. The advantage on start, however, was that the electric motors were instantaneously available before the engine got back on line. I'd love a hybrid JGC for that reason...the torque from the electric motors on hard acceleration was phenomenal.

My experience as well. I leave sport on in most of my other cars of the past, but with the GC the trans just hangs on those RPMs too long, like when coasting and you think it should be in a higher gear.

I will say, and probably jinxing myself, the smoothness in shifting of this GC is 1000% improved over my 2014.
